We are looking for you to join our team as a Staff Principal Systems Engineer - Automated Flight Control Systems (AFCS) based out of Woodland Hills, CA. What You'll get to Do:
Performs technical architecture and requirements development, modeling and simulation, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems. Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.
Develop architectures and requirements for Automated Flight Control Systems (AFCS) for Pilot-in-the-loop and pilotless helicopters, vehicles, robotic systems, etc.
Model AFCS architectures and tuning controls / options targeting military helicopter platforms.
Be the subject matter expert on autopiloting capabilities and controls.
Develop technical roadmap for implementation of AFCS capability in existing and future military helicopter platforms.
Collaborate with the United States Government (USG) and Crew Station Working Groups (CSWGs) to develop lower-level Key Performance Parameters (KPPs) and specifications.
Define requirements for hardware components to facilitate implementation of the AFCS.
Lead efforts to design, code, and integrate new AFCS requirements into existing control algorithm requirements, software, and verification baselines.
Lead efforts to architect and implement necessary simulation environment(s) to facilitate demonstration and proof testing of AFCS capabilities.
This position is contingent upon contract award and clearance
Basic Qualifications:
14 years of experience as a primary or lead engineer with hands-on development of automated flight control capabilities and functionality with a Bachelor of Science in a STEM discipline; 12 years of experience with Masters; 9 Years with a PhD
Experience, knowledge and successful development and deployment of Automatic Flight Control System (AFCS) to provide integration of the autopilot and flight director systems with either helicopter, fixed wing, land vehicle or robotic control systems
Active DoD Secret Clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience, knowledge and successful development and deployment of Automatic Flight Control System (AFCS) to provide integration of the autopilot and flight director systems for fixed wing or helicopter vehicles.
Be experienced and knowledgeable of Airworthiness and System Safety criteria including versed on MIL-STD-882, DO-178, DO-254 and related design assurance levels.
Be experienced and knowledgeable of Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methodologies, SysML specification and related toolsets such as Cameo, PTC, SCADE, MatLab Simulink/XPC, Model center.
Salary Range: $161,000 - $241,400
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
