Our Mission Systems Sector has an opening for System Operators to work in the Publications area of our Manufacturing organization. This position will be located in Sunnyvale, CA.
WORKING PROCEDURE:
THE FOLLOWING ARE THE USUAL MAJOR JOB DUTIES, BUT THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT PRECLUDE THE PERFORMANCE OF OTHER DUTIES BY THE INCUMBENT, NOR THE QUESTION BEING RAISED ON THE PROPER RATE FOR THE ASSIGNMENT.
Design and develop text, charts, tables, and forms, using publishing software where designs, formats and specific methods are not normally supplied.
Modify components, styles, templates, and automated features to facilitate input and editing of text and to ensure document attributes, such as paragraph numbering and pagination, conform to specifications.
Determine correct file formats to improve graphic quality and minimize file size.
Consult with technical writers and editors to establish document structure and formatting to meet customer requirements and apply routine editorial standards.
Set up and execute file conversions and delivery to the requestor in any of the available media (CDs, paper, PDFs, electronic transmission, etc.). Code documents using Standardized General Markup Language (SGML) as required.
Develop and recommend methods that will improve the effectiveness and capabilities of the publications process. Investigate and resolve problems with software and/or hardware.
Maintain knowledge of and compliance to applicable military and industrial specifications as directed.
DIRECTION OF OTHERS:
Provides technical assistance, guidance, and coordination to other operators as required.
DIRECTION RECEIVED:
Works with minimum supervision.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
High school diploma or equivalent, and Associate's Degree or equivalent experience.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Must have 4 years related experience with at least 2 years as a Publication System Operator "B" or its equivalent experience. Must have ability to obtain secret clearance.
Basic Qualifications:
High school / GED
Must have 4 years related experience with at least 2 years as a Publishing System Operator A or its equivalent experience
Must have demonstrated initiative and ability to resolve system-level publishing problems
Must possess interpersonal skills to communicate with customers and technical support personnel
Must have ability to obtain secret clearance
Expert-level proficiency in Arbortext or similar .sgml software
Expert-level proficiency in MS Word, Adobe Acrobat and MS Excel
Familiarity with Adobe Illustrator
Familiarity with Interleaf
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in formatting operation & maintenance manuals for the defense industry (military, aerospace, or aeronautics)
