Northrop Grumman Manufacturing Engineer/Principal Manufacturing Engineer in Sunnyvale, California

Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) is looking for you to join our team as a Manufacturing Engineer or Principal Manufacturing Engineer based out of Sunnyvale, CA campus. You will support the manufacturing and testing of Missile Launch and Handling Systems working on various manufacturing processes including manual and automated welding, machining, bonding, finishing and mechanical assembly.

Responsibilities include the following:

  • Develop new processes, improve existing manufacturing processes, and develop the required tooling and fixtures with an excellent team of experienced assembly mechanics, machinists, welders and engineers.

  • Evaluate existing manufacturing processes and systems to reduce cost, improve sustainability and develop best practices within the manufacturing environment.

  • Develop efficient process flows and sequences of operations, optimized production area layouts, manage bills of materials, create detailed work instructions, process procedures and tooling requirements with emphasis on safety, foreign object elimination and equipment/system maintenance.

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and implementation of new capital equipment for establishing expanded production processes.

  • The ability to support multiple production shifts is required (first, second, third shifts, and weekends) based on the assignment and current and future production schedules.

This position can be filled at a level Manufacturing Engineer or Principal Manufacturing Engineer.

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

This position may be filled at higher level based on the following qualifications

  • Bachelors in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology Engineering or Math) with 2+ years of relevant work experience; or Masters Degree in a STEM discipline with 0 years of experience.

OR

  • Bachelors in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology Engineering or Math) with 5+ years of relevant work experience; or Masters Degree in a STEM discipline with 3+ years of relevant work experience; 0 years with a PhD.

AND

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.

  • Ability to obtain Secret Clearance which requires US Citizenship.

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Exposure or specialization in any or all of the following: welding, machining and/or mechanical assembly processes.

  • Manufacturing equipment and facility operational experience.

  • Experience leading technical projects requiring project planning, scheduling, resource identification and financial management.

  • Experience with new product introduction.

  • Experience with applying Lean Six Sigma principles on low volume, high mix processes.
