Northrop Grumman Marine Systems, a historical campus in Sunnyvale, CA, specializes in the development, manufacturing, assembly and testing of missile launching and handling systems, propulsion and power generation systems for naval surface ships and submarines. Our products are built nowhere else in the country.

We are seeking Manufacturing Engineers to join our team. The successful candidate will work in conjunction with the Operations and Quality engineering teams in all facets of manufacturing high-value assemblies. The role could oversee fabrication, machining and/or assembly areas for responsibilities. Participate in troubleshooting and improving existing processes, developing new processes, and implementing new tools and fixtures. The candidate will participate in continuous improvement activities by establishing process controls and standardized work within a Manufacturing Process Area.

Theideal candidateshould have a demonstrated mechanical aptitude and an understanding of technical principles and theories related to manufacturing and metrology. The selected candidate will work under general direction to determine and implement timely solutions. Work will be reviewed upon completion for meeting objectives. The candidate will participate in the completion of assemblies and subsystems as well as internal R&D projects.

This position can be filled at a Engineer Manufacturing or Principal Engineer Manufacturing level.

Responsibilities include the following:

  • Develop new processes, improve existing manufacturing processes, and develop the required tooling and fixtures with an excellent team of experienced assembly mechanics, machinists, welders and engineers.

  • Create engineering documents which include work instructions, procedures, and Manufacturing Engineering instructions.

  • Evaluate existing manufacturing processes and systems to reduce cost, improve sustainability and develop best practices within the manufacturing environment to coordinate manufacturing flow and time efficiencies.

  • Review and approve engineering drawings for manufacturability of new and existing products.

  • Participate in Process reviews, PFMEA and SPC activities.

  • Provide emphasis on safety, foreign object elimination and equipment/system maintenance.

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and implementation of new capital equipment for establishing expanded production processes.

Basic Qualifications:

Engineer Manufacturing- Gear

Bachelors in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology Engineering or Math) with 2+ years of relevant work experience, or MastersDegree in a STEM discipline

Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and have an understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance (GD&T).

Ability to obtain Secret Clearance

The ability to support multiple production shifts is required (first, second, third shifts, and weekends) based on the assignment and current and future production schedules.

Principal Engineer Manufacturing-Gear

Bachelors in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology Engineering or Math) with 5+ years of relevant work experience, or MastersDegree in a STEM discipline with 3+ years of relevant work experience

Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and have an understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance (GD&T).

Ability to obtain Secret Clearance

The ability to support multiple production shifts is required (first, second, third shifts, and weekends) based on the assignment and current and future production schedules.

Preferred Qualifications:

Possess good written and verbal communication skills.

Should be a self-starter and able to prioritize tasks based on the needs.

3+ years' experience in a machining environment.

Experience in Gear Manufacturing and Metrology.

Be comfortable with being part of an integrated team of machinists, engineering peers and principal level engineers.

Experience with SAP

Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
