Northrop Grumman Marine Systems specializes in the development; manufacturing, assembly, and testing of missile launching and handling systems, propulsion, and power generation systems for naval surface ships and submarines. The Advanced Development group is seeking an Engineering Project Manager (EM) to join our team of qualified and diverse individuals to be the manager of research and development activities that will lead us to the next generation of technology implementation in our Marine Machinery portfolio. This is a very dynamic role and requires an ability to work with uncertainty and rapidly changing requirements in a prototyping environment.

The Engineering Manager (EM) will lead a diverse engineering team and be responsible for the end to end technical performance, cost, schedule, quality, and staffing for multiple development projects. This position requires multi-disciplined knowledge in all areas related to engineering including systems design, hardware, and integration and test. The Engineering Manager will be responsible for overseeing engineering program planning and execution, Earned Value Management System (EVMS) reporting, staffing, personnel performance assessment, briefings and providing overall leadership and coordination of a multi-disciplined Engineering team.

The Engineering Manager will interface with multiple disciplines including internal Executive Management, Program Management, Manufacturing, Global Supply Chain, Business Management, suppliers, and customers. The Engineering Manager will also work closely with functional Engineering leadership/staff to resolve issues and to staff the program.

EM responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Owns overall quality, technical, budget, and schedule responsibility for the engineering content of assigned programs.

  • Works collaboratively with Engineering Control Account Managers (CAMs) to meet program commitments.

  • Oversees the engineering program team and manages the execution of the engineering program scope.

  • Engineering program team liaison to program management, customers, operations, and other functional groups.

  • Manages risks and opportunities for all engineering scope.

  • Collaborates with all functional organizations to resolve engineering conflicts.

  • Communicates regularly with program management, customers, and engineering management.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) with 5 years of progressive relevant experience in (or Masters of Science with 3 years of progressive relevant experience)

  • 1 years of leadership/management experience

  • Technical lead experience

  • Ability to attain Secret Clearance

  • Ability to work evenings and weekends on occasion in support of project demands

  • Advanced knowledge of Excel

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Engineering Manager experience on development programs

  • Experience with EVMS, IMP/IMS and Program/Project management

  • Ship power and propulsion hardware design experience
