Northrop Grumman Space Systems – Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Principal Engineer Systems – Global ART Lead Systems Engineer (24-448) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be at Schriever Space Force Base, Colorado Springs, CO.
Position Overview:
The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications Experimentation Laboratory (C2BMC X-Lab) is fast-paced and dynamic. The X-Lab is responsible for developing and integrating future-capability prototypes for the Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS), including Sensor/Weapon Integration, Algorithm Development, User Interface Development, and other critical leading-edge missile defense technologies.
The X-Lab needs to augment the team with a mid-level systems engineer to perform a disciplined system engineering approach to define, develop, and analyze integrating external elements' capability with C2BMC. This includes performing playback of data from launch events into C2BMC, analyzing the system performance, and cueing BMDS sensors. Contribute toward developing future capabilities such as track processing, sensor management, tasking, cueing, discrimination, and BMDS architecture maturation. Participate in developing, executing, and analyzing the results of various prototype tests in a lab environment as needed. Non-standard work hours are highly likely during event execution, and a small amount of travel may be required.
Essential Functions:
Demonstrated experience in defining, developing, and integrating systems-of-systems
Demonstrated the ability to analyze high-level needs and defined a structured and logical approach to refine the capability into an integrated set of requirements that led to a fielded product
Demonstrated the ability to communicate effectively, clearly present technical approaches and findings, and have experience writing and implementing project engineering plans
Will have experience in working on IRAD-type projects
Demonstrable skills in Full Cycle Systems Engineering of new capabilities
Capability and requirement derivation based on customer needs
System interface design & Interface Control Document development
Focus on and potentially lead the integration of the R&D systems into C2BMC and will contribute to other ongoing X-Lab projects as needed
Assessment of how the C2BMC prototype system performs using state vectors, integrating source tracks into the prototype and assessing track processing results, generating and assessing concurrent radar and sensor tracks during M&S and live flight test events, and enhancing experimental prototypes based on results of these activities
Apply these results to identify and work to enhance C2BMC for future operations
The work location is the Missile Defense Integration and Operations Center (MDIOC) at Schriever SFB, Colorado
