Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems has an opening for a Systems Engineering Technical Leadership functional homeroom section manager for the Autonomous Division center of excellence to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in San Diego, CA

You will provide functional homeroom management of a team of systems engineering technical leaders performing multiple functions on various Autonomous Systems and Advance Design programs and lead design integration and IFC process efforts. You will be working under the functional homeroom full time.


  • Lead team of 6-8 systems engineers with grade level T02-TA5, and T06

  • Provide personnel with career development, employee engagement, mentoring and coaching

  • Coordinate with programs for staffing, recruiting, training, preparing and delivering performance evaluations to employees, evaluating/recommending employees for promotions, evaluating salaries and coordinating with Human Resources on potential adjustments, assisting employees in preparing performance goals, providing career guidance to employees and counseling employees on their performance as necessary

  • Forecast and lead work load for each team member

  • Develop and improve personnel and organizational technical skills

  • Work with Human Resources to mediate and resolve personnel issues

  • Ensure process alignment through the work of direct reports, supports program achievement reviews and deep dives, and assists in development and implementation of division objectives

  • Provide SE process, product, tools, and metrics leadership, expertise, and guidance across existing COE programs and new business / capture initiatives

  • Work with program to insert common product templates / tools on programs / pursuits to ensure consistent application of processes and products

  • Provide standard SE task descriptions (TDs), basis of estimates (BOEs), product cost drivers / adjustment factors, and cost savings ideas to proposals and support tailoring for specific effort

  • Develop/identify SE tools, product templates / examples, standard methodologies / lessons learned, etc. to support program execution

  • Develop SE product reuse library of templates / examples to support program reuse strategy

  • Develop SE process & product cost reduction / affordability ideas

  • Coordinate with SE sub-COP leads / POCs across COE and ensure required partners are integrated into SE across COE

  • Drive SE process / product affordability

  • Coordinate and reach agreement with programs on adopting specific SE affordability / cost reduction strategies and product reuse ideas

  • Audit programs for incorporation of the SE cost reduction / affordability ideas and product reuse

  • Lead AtS Sub CoP efforts for IFC and design integration and support AtS PPL in SE PoP execution

  • Support Program IFC Strategy and System Integration planning

  • Develop/Review CCOM process updates

  • Champion change within the organization, to achieve competitive advantage for the division and sector

  • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university

  • Minimum of 5 years combined experience in any of the following: Systems Engineering, System Integration, System Test Engineering, Software Test Engineering, Hardware Design Engineering, Software Engineering, and Quality and Process Engineering.

  • Experience in lead or first level manager role in a technical engineering capacity

  • Demonstrated system ownership experience in one of the following: CONOPS, integration, verification, or validation

  • Active DoD Secret clearance plus ability to obtain and maintain special program access


  • Master's degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to collaborate with all levels of employees and management

  • Solid expertise with Systems Engineering processes in CCOM and Enovia

  • Familiarity with Model-Based Systems Engineering languages (SysML /UML)

  • Ability to perform Integrated Architecture and Requirements Modeling activities to include functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to decompose customer requirements into hardware and software specifications

  • Familiarity with Agile engineering processes

  • Solid work experience on UAS programs

  • Active, in scope DoD Top Secret or SCI clearance
