At the Communications Business Unit of the Airborne C4ISR Systems division of Northrop Grumman Mission Systems located in San Diego, California, we deliver complex equipment to enable modern battlefields and support aviation missions. Our focus is on the world of avionics, radio and electronic warfare product applications to enable networked communications. As part of the corporation’s business focus area on Communications, we are the “equipment providers.� Our team of communication systems experts is developing next-generation ground radios for land forces, and our Electronic Warfare subject matter experts are creating the next generation of Improvised Explosive Device (IED) countermeasures to keep our soldiers safe when in harm’s way.

The Systems Engineer (SE) will support a team by leading and performing: technical planning; system design and analysis; requirements development; and the allocation and communication of system requirements to hardware,

software, and integration & test. This SE performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detailed trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications. This SE will be a lead contributor on our strong SE team, working to ensure the logical and systematic conversion of customer and product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints.

The team is seeking a Systems Engineer with experience in Communication System architecture development, design, and implementation to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals to meet challenging issues confronting national security. Qualified individuals must be flexible, self-motivated, hardworking and capable of working on an agile program, as it moves through the system lifecycle phases of development, testing and deployment. The ideal candidates will develop Digital Signal Processing solutions to increasingly complex problems, utilizing modeling and simulation in C++/ C and/or MATLAB environment; and perform their work with minimal direction and oversight.

This position is focused on prototyping advanced communications systems detection algorithms.

Work will also include definition of system performance requirements, modeling, verification, validation activities. The preferred candidate will have experience in in Software Defined Radio systems for both commercial and military application, should be able to work and function in a dynamic environment where requirements can change frequently according to the customer needs.

In addition, the candidate must be a team player, able to work comfortably and effectively with diverse team members as well as program stakeholders and customer representative. Also, the candidate will be required to support regular technical interchange meetings, on-site technical support, and off-site event support.

Primary responsibilities:

†Algorithm development, modeling, aiding in system integration, verification and validation

†Convert customer or product requirements into systems solutions for embedded implementation

†Develop modeling and simulation tools that acknowledge the target platform technical constraints

†Perform functional analysis, timing analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate selected algorithms into embedded implementation.

†Perform performance analysis and generate test vector for system validation

†Serve as the subject matter expert for signal processing capability development and implementation for rapid solution deployment

Basic Qualifications:

†US citizen with the ability to obtain a Secret clearance

†Bachelor’s Degree in a traditional STEM discipline from an accredited institution

†Engineering Experience: 14 Years with Bachelors in Science; 12 Years with Masters; or 9 Years with PhD

†Recent experience with one element of modern RF communications (RF, Digital, Analog or Network)

†Experience with deriving hardware and software requirements

†Experience with design, development, testing and system integration

†Expertise in Microsoft Office (e.g., Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Project)

†Understanding of DOORS
