Northrop Grumman Program Manager 1 in San Diego, California

COI Ceramics (COIC), a part of Northrop Grumman's Space Components Business Unit, leads the industry in the development, fabrication and production of High Temperature Ceramic Matrix Composite (CMC) Components and test articles for the commercial aircraft and defense industry. With over 20 years of experience, COIC uses advanced CMC manufacturing and technologies for delivery of lightweight, high value structures. COIC is currently hiring a Program Manager 1 in our San Diego, CA location. This regular full-time position will report to the Business/Program Director of COIC on a 9/80 work schedule. This position will be responsible for leading programs and supporting business development in the all development/production areas to include: Non-oxide CMC processing, Oxide CMC processing, and ceramic fiber processing

Primary duties

  • Directs all phases of programs from inception through completion

  • Responsible for the cost, schedule and technical performance of company programs or sub-elements of major programs

  • Participates in the negotiations of contract and contract changes

  • Coordinates the preparation of proposals, business plans, proposal work statements and specifications, operating budgets and financial terms/conditions of contract

  • Acts as primary customer contact for program activities, leading program review sessions with customer to discuss cost, schedule, and technical performance

  • Establishes design concepts, criteria and engineering efforts for product research, development, integration and test

  • Develops new business or expands the product line with the customer

  • Establishes milestones and monitors adherence to master plans and schedules

  • Identifies program problems and obtain solutions, such as allocation of resources or changing contractual specifications

  • Directs the work of employees assigned to the program from technical, manufacturing and administrative areas

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or Engineering Required

  • 5 years of program management experience in aerospace, defense or related manufacturing industry

  • Ability to obtain a DOD Security Clearance, which requires US Citizenship as a pre-requisite.

  • Experience in leading and delegating proposals

  • Exhibit excellent interpersonal and leadership skills

  • Exhibit organizational skills for planning, monitoring and controlling work efforts

  • Exhibit proven track record in meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers

  • Possess strong communication/presentation skills

  • Ability to identify issues, analyze and interpret data and develop innovative solutions to a variety of complex matters of diverse scope and nature

  • Ability to effectively convey complex technical information in individual and group settings.

  • Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint and Project

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active Security clearance is desirable

  • Technical background in material science, ceramics, aerospace, manufacturing or mechanical engineering preferred

  • Experience working with composites preferred; CMC processing highly desirable

  • Experience in customer business development highly preferred

  • Advanced Degree and/or Completion of Business or Project/Program Management Professional Training highly desirable
