Northrop Grumman Prncpl Pilot Unmnd Aerial Veh in San Diego, California
Pilots unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) during developmental test and operational flights. Remotely pilots vehicle to determine compliance with specification and operational suitability during engineering tests and flight test/demonstration support through specifically prescribed tests and maneuvers. Defines, plans, organizes and executes complex flight programs and flight test events. Conducts briefings and debriefings, and coordinates with maintenance personnel to analyze and correct vehicle discrepancies. May conduct demonstration flights with customers, government officials or other personnel to exhibit vehicle performance, flying qualities and system capabilities.
Job Responsibilities:
Responsible for the safe and effective mission planning, coordination, and execution of BAT Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) flight tests and demonstrations in accordance with all applicable procedures and processes.
Support the SIT&E IPT consisting of system and flight test engineers; UASPs and Mission Payload Operators; Instrumentation Engineers; and Flight Test Technicians during the conduct of the BAT UAS program.
Assist BAT Chief UASP, SIT and FTEs in the development, release and execution of test plans, ground and flight test procedures, and flight test cards in support of the BAT UAS test and demonstration program.
Perform as UASP requiring frequent travel for domestic and potentially overseas work assignments to flight test & demonstration sites. Travel may exceed 50%.
Participate in Flight Readiness Reviews, Test Readiness Reviews, Safety Review Boards and Design Reviews for the BAT UAS program.
Participate in customer and NGAS program management reviews.
Basic Qualifications:
5 years with a BS or BA degree; 3 years with Masters
8 years of total aviation experience
Experiencein fixedwing UAS operations, flight test and demonstrations
Experience in flight safety standardization and training
Able to maintain FAA Class II Medical
500 first-pilot hours
Valid FAA commercial pilot certificate or higher
Preferred Qualifications:
STEM degree
Graduate of a Test Pilot School or UAS short course
BAT UASP deployment operations experience
UAS Mission Payload Operator (MPO) experience
UAS Mission Commander experience
UAS SIT Lab experience
