Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is seeking a Principal/Sr. Principal Manufacturing Engineer to join our Supplier Manufacturing Engineering team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in San Diego, CA .

Essential Functions:

Supplier Manufacturing Engineering is responsible for supply base technical management related to the acquisition of internal Programs hardware needs. This highly visible position requires a motivated self-starter with a manufacturing background in military aircraft composite, machine part fabrication and sub systems installation. The candidate must possess excellent interpersonal skills to respond to program customer product needs and concerns. This position requires resolving supplier production questions, tooling needs and will be required to operate and excel in a small, high performance team environment. Candidate must have a demonstrated ability to multi-task and communicate effectively with varying levels of program customers and functional organization leadership.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to; provide a technical interface between Program IPT's and Suppliers. Analyze engineering specifications and drawings; confers with quality, material, manufacturing and subcontractors to provide and obtain technical information. Provide Subject Matter Expertise to resolve supplier technical questions and issues related to production or tooling topics. Ensure producibility and affordability of designs and manufacturing systems in support of engineering and production teams. Perform technical evaluations (assess needs and costs) of supplier's proposals for parts, assemblies and/or tooling for Buyers. Manage work transfer to and standup of suppliers to produce NGAS designs. Perform and manage onsite Supplier capability/capacity assessments and Production Readiness Reviews.

Travel required (up to 25%)

Qualifications:

This requisition may be filled at either a Principal Manufacturing Engineer level or Sr. P rincipal Manufacturing Engineer level.

Principal Manufacturing Engineer

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) field with 5 years of experience, Master's Degree with 3 years of experience, or a PhD with 1 year of experience in a manufacturing, aerospace, or military aviation environment.

  • Prior work experience in Composite Manufacturing.

  • Demonstrated experience to formulate and execute technical solutions to part, assembly and tooling challenges.

  • Demonstrated Project Management experience.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior Supplier Technical Management experience with manufacturing of military hardware.

  • Experience with CATIA (CAD Software) and Manufacturing Execution System (MES).

  • Knowledge of FAR & DFAR requirements.

  • Knowledge of ISO 9001/AS9100 requirements.

  • Demonstrated experience using SAP, Windows software packages.

  • Active DoD Secret/Top Secret clearance.

Sr. Principal Manufacturing Engineer

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) field with 9 years of experience, Master's Degree with 7 years of experience, or a PhD with 4 years of experience in a manufacturing, aerospace, or military aviation environment.

  • Prior work experience in Composite Manufacturing.

  • Demonstrated experience to formulate and execute technical solutions to part, assembly and tooling challenges.

  • Demonstrated Project Management experience.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:
