Northrop Grumman Mgr Systems Engineering Business Facing Lead 3 in San Diego, California

Northrop Grumman's Airborne C4ISR Division / Communications Business Unit has an 2 immediate needs for an Engineering Business Facing Lead (BFL) for our Communications, Navigation and Identification (CNI) and Advanced Platforms (AP) Operating Units (OU) located at our Rancho Carmel campus or Resilient Network Solutions (RNS) Operating Unit (OU) located at our Spectrum Campus. The role will be located in San Diego, CA. The Comms BU is responsible for profitable global business growth through delivery of trusted networks and communications products that provide increased situational understanding, survivability and speed of decision making to enable multi domain collaborative mission operations.

The BFL Manager will serve as the primary Engineering interface for both of these OUs.

He/she will also be responsible for Engineering program execution and positioning for the OUs and related programs. The selected candidate will be responsible for leadership of all Engineering functions including staffing and technical execution.

The successful candidate must have a proven record of Engineering development success in one or more of the following areas: Systems Engineering, Hardware Engineering, Software Engineering and/or Manufacturing. The candidate must be proactive and execution oriented in his/her approach toward Engineering development. He/she must have a strong understanding of communications systems to ensure that outstanding technical development and execution is achieved and is consistent within the organization. He/she must be capable of broad, strategic thinking with respect to emerging customer needs, technical positioning, and requisite capabilities, with the ability to guide the organization towards the strategic and tactical actions necessary for success.

In doing so, the manager will serve as the single point of contact for all OU Engineering and Sciences support. He/she will ensure programs adhere to sound engineering practices in program capture and execution activities throughout the program lifecycle. They will provide Engineering Manager (EM) services for programs and coordinate overall ES&T staffing to the business. The BFL manager will contribute to strategy development: roadmaps, critical skills, etc. of the OU. He/she will lead tiger teams, deep dive / root cause on critical issues and represent ES&T in C101 Sign-off Reviews.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or technical equivalent with 10 years of experience working on hardware, manufacturing and/or software development programs.

  • Minimum 5 years of Leadership experience leading teams of people

  • Systems Engineering and program leadership experience of large technical programs

  • Ability to build and lead technical development teams with a vision for success and capable of delegating responsibilities to the appropriate team members.

  • Deep, current relationships within the engineering community spanning the different technical disciplines (hardware, software, systems, manufacturing, supply chain, etc.).

  • Thorough knowledge of Northrop Grumman engineering processes and proven credentials across all phases of the product development.

  • Familiarity with Business Acquisition Process (identification, qualification, capture, bid, and keep sold activities).

  • Demonstrated experience designing, building and manufacturing electronic products from start to delivery

  • Strong communication skills

  • Active DoD Secret security clearance, in scope

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Engineering or technical equivalent

  • Manufacturing and Production Engineering experience

  • Knowledge of Northrop Grumman internal processes, procedures, and organization

  • Engineering Management or IPT leadership experience

  • Knowledge and experience of the DoD customers

  • Active DoD Top Secret / SCI clearance
