Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems in San Diego, California is currently seeking a Software Engineering Manager 2 for our Triton Program.

This role will be responsible for the functional management of approximately 12 software engineering personnel assigned to your program. Duties include conducting performance assessments, managing staffing needs, developing your employees, conducting communication meetings, administering disciplinary actions, performing compensation adjustments, training & educational oversight/approval, and other routine personnel issues. This position will establish common processes and practices in collaboration with colleague managers across the sector. A qualified manager must have experience in the full lifecycle of complex software systems.

Essential Functions:

  • Work closely with program-assigned systems engineering, software development, and management professionals to ensure that the software lifecycle is accomplished with high quality and efficiency.

  • Lead and manage the quality and timeliness of the organization's products and identification.

  • Identify and remedy potential issues before they become problems.

  • Develop and manage detailed budgets and schedules

  • Build work assignments for indirect tasking

The ideal candidate will have a current and continuing full-time program assignment. This position is allocated for 15% of the employee's time. This will fluctuate during the year due to business needs, and the performance management cycle.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university

  • Must have at least 5 years of experience in Engineering

  • Must demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of all aspects of the software development lifecycle.

  • Must have demonstrated lead experience.

  • An active in-scope DoD Secret Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Special Program Access is preferred.

  • An advanced degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or other STEM discipline

  • Advanced technical management degrees

  • Prior experience in engineering functional management is a plus.

  • Must have proven leadership qualities and strong interpersonal skills.

  • Must demonstrate exemplary professionalism and ability to maintain composure in stressful situations.

  • Must demonstrate strong team-building/collaboration skills.

  • Must have a demonstrated ability to build diverse/inclusive teams with engaged team members.

  • Must have demonstrated mentoring and coaching skills, and excellent 2-way communication skills (upward and downward).

  • Previous experience leading a team of 5-12 employees with a record of on-time performance.

  • Previous experience in developing proposal inputs (task descriptions and basis of estimate).

  • Must have time management and organizational skills to prioritize across concurrent program and functional responsibilities.
