Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems (NGAS) has an exciting career opportunity for a Manager Engineering 2 - Guidance & Control (G&C) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This hands-on leadership position is located at our Rancho Bernardo, San Diego, CA location with some hybrid flexibility available.

The selected candidate will provide both functional homeroom management (approx. 20%) and technical contributions (approx. 80%) as part of a team of Guidance & Control engineers performing efforts on air vehicle programs within the Autonomous Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance, and Targeting business area and reports to the Air Vehicle lead for multiple programs.

Management responsibilities include:

  • Lead team of approximately 12-15 G&C engineers, including college and high school interns

  • Provide personnel with career development, employee engagement, mentoring, and coaching

  • Coordinate with programs for staffing, recruiting, training, preparing and delivering performance evaluations to employees, evaluating/recommending employees for promotions, evaluating salaries and coordinating with Human Resources on potential adjustments, assisting employees in preparing performance goals, providing career guidance to employees, and counseling employees on their performance as necessary

  • Develop and improve personnel and organizational technical skills

  • Work with Human Resources to mediate and resolve personnel issues

  • Ensure process alignment through the work of direct reports, support program milestone reviews and deep dives, and assist in development and implementation of division objectives

  • Work closely with managers of other engineering disciplines, program managers, and IPT leads

  • Champion change within the organization, to achieve competitive advantage for the division and sector

  • Demonstrate abilities to build diverse and inclusive teams with high levels of engagement, including mentoring and coaching

Technical responsibilities include:

  • Perform performance and flying qualities analysis

  • Non-linear 6DOF Simulation analysis

  • Linear MATLAB analysis

  • Data analysis and investigation

  • Mission plan analysis support

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 9 years of related experience; OR a Master's degree in a relevant STEM discipline from an accredited university with 7 years of related experience

  • Ability to obtain a DoD Secret Clearance

  • Knowledge of Control System Design and Analysis

  • Experience with Matlab and/or Simulink

  • Able to travel as needed (approx. 10%)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current, in-scope Secret clearance (or higher)

  • Previous Leadership Experience

  • Experience with AGILE/JIRA/Confluence

  • Knowledge of CAM/Earned Value

  • Knowledge in Auto Coding , linear and non-linear analysis , aerodynamics , stability and control , simulation and modeling , and test data analysis

  • Experience with C/C++ and Python

  • Excellent verbal and written interpersonal skills

Salary Range: $147,800 - $221,800

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
