Northrop Grumman Field Engineer 4 in San Diego, California

The Contingency Deployment Operations (CDO) Hardware Engineer Technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) will be part of and engineering team supporting operations and maintenance of complex tactical communications systems and data links providing voice and data services in a sustained operation located overseas and CONUS. The CDO Technical SME will report directly to the CDO Engineering Manager, must hold and active Secret Clearance and be available to travel 25-35% OCONUS.

Primary engineering duties will be performed at the Northrop Grumman Spectrum Center facilities in San Diego, CA and include providing technical support, documentation and assistance to hardware, software and system engineers in failure analysis, system modification design as well as preparation of hardware, software, network, and information assurance related service packs. Secondary duties will include supporting system engineering; reliability engineering and the training department. When traveling OCONUS, the primary engineering duties include the operation and maintenance of all hardware and software of the air and ground components of an airborne communications system. Secondary duties include Linux, Windows and ESXi virtualization system administration. The candidate must be able to fill the role of project engineer, work independently and demonstrate excellent judgment. Their written and verbal communication skills must be exceptional with proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Power Point and Visio.

Candidate should have broad experience with the operation, configuration and maintenance of military communications systems and data links, IP networks and radios to include the TCDL, PRC-117, PSC-5, ARC-210, SADL and Link 16 MIDS LVT. Candidate must have knowledge of computers, radios, radio transmission fundamentals, RF theory and A/C power distribution systems as well as commercial and military interface and networking standards to include RS-232, RS-422, 1553, TCP/IP and UDP. Candidate must also have working knowledge in Linux system administration and possess or be able to obtain a Security + certification within six months. Candidate must possess strong analytical and troubleshooting skills and the ability to read electrical drawings and schematics. Candidate should also have experience with electrical soldering and mil-standard connectors. The candidate will work closely with an Active Duty/Government customer as well as internal Northrop Grumman Integrated Product Teams (IPTs). Extended travel to hazardous overseas duty locations is required and experience on flight lines, working on aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) is a plus.

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) field with 9 years of experience.

Employment is contingent onpassing a pre-assignment medical examination IAW USCENTCOM INDIVIDUAL PROTECTION AND INDIVIDUAL/UNIT DEPLOYMENT POLICY requirements.

Effective oral and written communication skills.

Ability to communicate well and interact successfully with all levels of the organization.

Must be able to manage conflicting deadlines, frequent interruptions, and multiple tasks.

Physical ability to maneuver around equipment in test labs, remote ground stations and aircraft.

Verbal acuity to clearly communicate with personnel; and manual dexterity sufficient to use keyboards and control panels.

Current active secret security clearance.

Experience with Simple Key Loader (SKL) as well as

DOD 8570 IAT Level I (Security +) or greater certification.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with Linux and Windows systems administration is a plus.
