Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems located in San Diego, CA has an immediate opening for a Mechanical Design Engineer 4 to work on the Air Vehicle Installations Design team.

Essential Functions:

Final signoff from Design engineering for Mechanical and Electrical installations design BTP/Drawing packages.

Perform detailed drawing review to ensure technical quality, sense and suitability of the intended design

Lead a dedicated team of design engineers, ensuring tasking is understood, de-conflicted and non-overlapping within the team.

Generate tasking, plans, estimates and make specific assignments within the team accounting for each team member's current workload.

Develop design implementation approaches based on disparate or incomplete information sets, such as for Change Request Technical Review Board meetings or customer Requests for Proposals and Statements of Work,

Develop detailed mechanical designs within the system's performance and environmental requirements.

Familiarize newer team members with design tools and methodologies, and ensure cross-team constancy in application.

Provide performance feedback for team members to IPT Management.

Establish vehicle layout, high-level equipment placement and packaging.

Serve as primary POC for Production and Retrofit sites for disposition of nonconforming hardware.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) along with a minimum of 9 years’ experience in Aerospace Engineering

  • 6 years Aircraft mechanical design using CATIA V5

  • Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance (GD&T) ASME Y14.5M application.

  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Moderate development program where parts you designed were installed on an aircraft

  • Experience with TeamCenter PLM Aerospace and Defense module both for CATIA V5 model management as well as document review and release.

  • Experience on one complete (From Design through Fabrication/Assembly/Installation/Flight) Moderate development program where parts designed were installed on an aircraft

  • Experience in applying good Configuration Management practices
