TheSystems Engineering Integration and Testteam at Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) is looking for you to join our team as a Airworthiness Engineer based out of San Diego, CA.

As part of Northrop Grumman's business focus area on Communications, the Resilient Network Solutions (RNS) operating unit provides world-class communications with a range of capabilities spanning from quick reaction/urgent need programs to complex communication integration efforts. Our RNS Battlefield Airborne Communications Node (BACN) program is the leading supplier of airborne networks, providing flexible content delivery solutions for C2, ISR and disaster relief customers worldwide.
The BACN program has need for an Airworthiness Staff Engineer in an airborne platform certification project lead role with in-depth knowledge of aircraft systems and structures certification using both civilian (Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Transport Canada (TC), European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and military (US Government DoD, all services) certification processes. This work will be performed in San Diego, CA with a possibility of up to 25% travel (CONUS & OCONUS).
Roles & Responsibilities:
You willleverage significant experience and judgment to develop and perform technical airworthiness certification planning andexecution support, to include airworthiness certification plans, certification basis development, and oversight of airworthiness certification activitiesfor highly or unusually complex total systems with Northrop and customer engineering department counterparts in support of the BACN Payload Program.
Job Duties: Reviews and coordinate with external and internal airworthiness engineers at all levels of total airborne systems to include: design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. Performs functional and process analyses, requirements allocation and definition studies to translate customer requirements into sound certification basis, criteria, standards and methods of compliance. Ensures the logical and systematic realization of customer airworthiness requirements to meet program objectives (e.g. FAA or USAF Certification Basis approval and compliance, type certification, flight releases, continued airworthiness, and operational airspace integration).
Bachelor's Degree in STEM or other applicable technical discipline
14 years airworthiness certification experience on manned or unmanned aircraft systems with Bachelor's Degree, 12 years with Master's; 9 years with PhD.
Direct, hands-on Civil (FAA, TC, EASA) or DoD (USAF, USN, USArmy) Aviation certification experience from design through delivery and disposal
Significant and verifiable direct customer certification authority interaction
Expertise in certification basis development using MIL-HDBK-516
Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance
Degree in Aviation or Aeronautical Engineering discipline
Civilian Derivative Aircraft (CDA) development program experience
Direct, hands-on Civil (FAA, TC, EASA) and DoD (USAF, USN, USArmy) Aviation certification experience from design through delivery and disposal
Current active Secret security clearance
Current or former FAA DER/DAR or ODA unit member (UM)
Airframe & Powerplant rating with Inspection Authorization (A&P, IA)
