Analyzes, researches, and develops structural engineering specifications for metallic, non-metallic and composite structures in all phases of the product life cycle from preliminary design to sustainment. Analyses of the structures could include loads, dynamics, stress, stability, fatigue, and thermal. Analyses will be performed utilizing hand calculations and or finite element software packages such as Nastran and Abaqus. When finite element models (FEMs) are appropriate, critical thinking skills will be required to develop a FEM to capture appropriate behavior of complex non-linear structures. Due to the complex nature of the systems analyzed, the position requires working closely with multiple engineering disciplines including but not limited to Computational Fluid Mechanics, System Engineering, and Mechanical Design to achieve program objectives in a timely manner. This requisition may be filled at a higher grade based on qualifications listed below .

Additional work responsibilities may include task planning and conducting technical peer reviews

Basic Qualifications:

  • U.S. Citizenship and an Active Secret security clearance (or higher)

  • This requisition may be filled at either a level 2 or level 3

o Level 2: Bachelor Degree (with min 2 yrs experience), Master Degree (with min 0 yrs experience), in applicable Engineering field (Mechanical, Aerospace, Civil, Math)

o Level 3: Bachelor’s degree (with 5+ years), Master’s degree (with 3+ years), or a PhD (with 0 years of experience) in applicable Engineering field (Mechanical, Aerospace, Civil, Math)

  • 2+ years of experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) in any of the following solvers: Nastran, Abaqus, ANSYS or similar

  • Experience coding in Matlab, C, and or Python

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active Top Secret security clearance

  • Inter-Continental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) experience

  • Abaqus FEA experience

  • Composite Experience

  • Civil Engineering Experience

o Concrete Modeling

  • Load and Dynamics Experience

o Launch Vehicle Coupled Loads Analysis (Max Q, Gust, Buffet, etc.)

o Experience in calculation and evaluation of dynamic environments (Shock, Random Response, and Sinusoidal)
