Northrop Grumman, Space Systems, is currently looking for a Rocket Casing Robotic Spray Engineering Technician 3/4 to join our team. This position will be supporting Propulsion Systems Division at our Magna, UT location with the anticipation that the position will be transferred to report out of our Copper Crossing Value Stream location in Salt Lake City, UT once we have opened that facility in late 2024-early 2025.

Description & Responsibilities:

As an Engineering Technician , you will prepare, maintain, and operate Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) to control the robotic spraying of resins, explosive powder and final liner materials inside of rocket motor chambers via Spray Lance Robots, while following detailed work instructions. This role will work closely with process engineering, referring to product drawings and blueprints. Additionally, this role will be expected to have, at least, a fundamental understanding of other process across the factory, from case prep to case fabrication, assisting with these processes and looking for opportunities of process improvement, when not performing the task of operating the Spray Lance Robots.

• Perform pre-operational robot checkouts.

• Mask equipment to protect it from materials being applied.

• Monitor material parameters during processing to verify requirements.

• Cleaning and rebuilding spray gun assemblies.

• Stewardship of the Spray Lance Robots and related facilities.

• Operate PLC’s during charging, spraying, and flushing of the robotic operations.

• Perform visual inspection of the final liner application.

• Maintain Statistical Process Control (SPC) data tracking during spraying operations and accurately calculate weights to determine correct material application inside cases.

• Perform thermography, infrared color scale inspections, on chambers to validate cork to case bonding integrity.

• Coordination of spraying operations with multiple support organizations.

• Accountability and control of explosive powder.

• Performs other duties as assigned by management.

Basic Qualifications:

This position can be filled at either a level 3 or level 4.

Basic Qualifications for a Level 3:

• High school diploma or GED with 4 years of related work experience.

• Ability to work as a team, set the example, and work to find new process improvements among all case fabrication and case preparation operations

• Previous experience gathering, maintaining and compiling technical data

• Able to read engineering documentation and reports including drawings and schematics

• Capability to understand and follow electronic work instruction documents

• Ability to read, clearly interpret and accurately follow standard work and other written instructions.

Basic Qualifications for a Level 4:

• High school diploma or GED with 6 years of related work experience.

• Ability to work as a team, set the example, and work to find new process improvements among all case fabrication and case preparation operations

• Previous experience gathering, maintaining and compiling technical data.

• Able to read engineering documentation and reports including drawings and schematics.

• Capability to understand and follow electronic work instruction documents.

• Ability to read, clearly interpret and accurately follow standard work and other written instructions.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelors Degree in a related discipline and/or related special certifications

• Experience working with thermo-hygrographs, penetrometers, spray guns and viscometers.

• Experience operating a robot in a production environment

• Experience working in an energetics environment

• Proficient with computer applications, such as Word, Access, Excel, etc.

• Ability to review and interpret work instructions, designs and drawings, with tooling and end item processes and products.

Salary Range: $55,800 - $93,000

Salary Range 2: $66,300 - $110,500

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
