Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Nuclear Hardness and Survivability (NH&S) Systems Engineer in support of the Sentinel program. Northrop Grumman supports the Air Force's sustainment, development, production and deployment of hardware and system modifications for Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Ground and Airborne Launch Control Systems, Launch Facilities, and associated infrastructure. This position is located in Roy, Utah. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.
What You'll Get To Do
The successful candidate for this position will use their experience and education in nuclear electromagnetic pulse (EMP) effects, modeling, and testing to design systems that will operate in the following environments: high altitude EMP (HEMP) environments, system generated EMP (SGEMP) environments, source region EMP (SREMP) environments, and internal EMP (IEMP) environments.
The candidate will guide and mentor junior engineers in the science of nuclear weapon effects (with special focus on EMP effects) and the analytical tools used to validate EMP requirements.
Specific duties to include, but are not limited to the following:
Performs EMP analysis for verification of specification requirements and advises stakeholders on EMP validation tests. This job function will be performed using CST Studio Suite EM Analysis software. Other tools such as ANSYS EMA3D and HFSS may also be used.
Strong familiarity with MATLAB and SPICE circuit analysis.
Strong familiarity with transmission line analysis and shield transfer impedance (STI) modeling and testing.
Oversee the analysis of shielding, components, and systems to satisfy the EMP/ HEMP requirements for the system.
Work with Systems Engineering Teams to design EMI/EMP hardened facilities/equipment/systems.
Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer EMP requirements into hardware and software specifications.
Performs technical planning related to EMP and presents EMP risks and opportunities to the appropriate stakeholders.
Presents EMP related technical topics at review boards, to integrated product teams, systems engineering and integration team (SEIT), and chief engineers.
Lead and influence the team to achieve program EMP goals.
Train, mentor, and share knowledge with all team members.

This position's standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.
Job Qualifications
You'll Bring These Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) with 9 years' experience; 7 years' experience with a Masters' degree; 4 years' experience with a PhD
US Citizen with an active DoD Secret Clearance adjudicated within the last 6 years.
Thorough knowledge of Electromagnetic Interference EMI/EMP/lightning design and analysis practices
Significant years of experience modeling EM effects in various tools including but not limited to: CST Studio Suite Software or ANSYS EMA3D Simulation Software
Significant experience using MATLAB and SPICE circuit analysis software
Proficient working knowledge of electromagnetic compatibility EMC/EMI/EMP and EM effects standards such as MIL-STD-188-125-1 & 2, MIL-HDBK-423, MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-2169, MIL-HDBK-419, IEEE standards, RTCA DO-160 and related DOD standards/handbooks
Experience with modelling and simulation tools to analyze EMI/EMC/EMP effects on design
Experience in EMI/EMP/HEMP Verification Testing
Strong ability to lead team and achieve goals
These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:
Active Top-Secret clearance with investigation in the last 6 years
Able to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP)
Strong experience in EMI/EMP/HEMP Verification Testing
Strong familiarity with MIL-STD-1766
Weapon System experience (Minuteman III or similar military or industry experience)
Salary Range: $112,000 - $168,000
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
