Northrop Grumman offers challenging career opportunities in Hardware Engineering within the Mission Systems Sector that play a key role in the mission to protect our military personnel. The Hardware Engineering organization is dedicated to consistently providing high quality product designs in support of multiple product areas. The Hardware Engineering organization provides engineering support services for all programs at the Rolling Meadows campus.

Standards and Components (S & C) Engineering provides structure, guidance and support in the selection of components for all programs. This position will work closely with the Design Engineers and the component suppliers to minimize the number of different components used in NG designs and to ensure that the parts chosen meet all of the needs of our customer, including environmental, reliability and expected product life.

This position provides Obsolescence monitoring, identifying in an analytical report projected lifecycles and continued availability for Semiconductors and Microcircuits. For discontinued components with no exact replacement, the Standards and Components Engineer will identify similar components that could be utilized with minimal impact on the product design.

This position will also identify, qualify and document new components and replace those that have been discontinued. This involves the comparison of specifications and determination of equivalency. The components include nuts, screws, wire, connectors, switches, resistors, capacitors, inductors, transformers, relays, diodes, transistors and integrated circuits.

The Standards and Components Engineering is also the site representative for GIDEP (Government-Industry Data Exchange Program). This function provides two-way interaction for component problem issues. Sharing timely component information between component manufacturers, OEMs and using organizations prevents the inclusion if defective materials in systems. This position is also responsible for vendor interaction, detailed analysis and document preparation, including all styles of drawings, such as Altered Item drawings, Source Control drawings and Northrop Designs.

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS in Engineering or Materials Science with 2+ years of relevant experience.

  • Candidate must possess good oral and written communications skills.

  • US Citizenship and must have the ability to obtain interim secret clearance prior to starting.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Responsibilities include researching electrical components for application.

  • Familiarity with governing regulatory directives (e.g., REACh, RoHS) and Mil-Specs.

  • Ability to be the liaison to several internal organizations and external suppliers.

Salary Range: $73,600 - $110,400

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
