Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) is seeking a Sr Principal Systems Engineer / Staff Engineer Systems to join Systems Engineering, Integration and Test (SEIT) at our Rolling Meadows, IL location. The selected candidates will report to the SEIT Department in the Infrared Countermeasures (IRCM) Department. As part of the IRCM team, the selected candidate's primary focus will be to utilize Modeling and Simulation (M&S) to support a wide range of IRCM-related activity.

What You'll get to Do:

Analyze lab/field data and conduct:

  • Countermeasure effectiveness analysis

  • System performance verification

  • System requirements analysis

  • Capabilities gap analysis

Develop and refine algorithms and methodologies:

  • Analytical and predictive models

  • Threat modeling and simulation

  • IRCM system / subsystem modeling and simulation

  • IRCM techniques

Report findings:

  • Customer reports and presentations

  • Internal/external briefings

  • Technical papers

  • Support all levels of product life cycle:

  • Proposal, basis of estimates

  • Trade studies

  • Design reviews

  • System / subsystem test events

  • System documentation

  • Training

  • Sustainment

Basic Qualifications for Staff Systems Engineer:

  • BS degree in electrical, system engineering or related technical degree with at least 14 years of related experience or MS in electrical, systems engineering or related technical degree with 12 years related experience, or PhD in electrical, systems engineering or related technical degree with 9 years related experience.

  • Prior experience interfacing with customers to convert customer needs into testable system requirements.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.

  • Working knowledge of earned value management of cost accounts and schedules.

  • Strong math, statistics, probability, and radiometry skills

  • Demonstrated success in proving the system satisfies requirements via analysis.

  • Demonstrated ability to capture and process data in tools like MATLAB for performance analysis and specification verification.

  • Working knowledge of configuration management tools.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, and ability to work in an integrated product team (IPT) environment.

  • Experience working on Department of Defense contracts.

  • This position requires the applicant to be a U.S. citizen and the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance and Special Access Program (SAP) clearance.

Basic Qualifications for Sr Principal Systems Engineer:

  • Working knowledge of earned value management of cost accounts and schedules.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of one of more of the following specialty areas related to EOIR systems:

  • Threat detection and tracking

  • Atmospheric phenomenology

  • Aircraft and threat signature phenomenology

  • Laser phenomenology

  • Knowledge of MATLAB, Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) and Java, Python, or other scripting languages.

  • Experience with Model Based System Engineering (MBSE) concepts and tools.

  • Experience in all aspects of the engineering process from proposal / requirements analysis through verification testing.

  • Agile development experience a plus

  • Ability and willingness to travel 10-20%

  • Active Secret or Top Secret Clearance

Salary Range: $153,600 - $230,400

Salary Range 2: $123,800 - $185,800

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
