Northrop Grumman Principal Packaging Engineer in Rolling Meadows, Illinois

Northrop Grumman Mission Systems has an opening for a Packaging Engineer Level 2/3 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position is located in Rolling Meadows, IL and will report to the site Industrial Engineering

Manager.

Job Responsibilities:

The Packaging Engineer will develop military and commercial reusable and short life shipping and storage containers formaterial handling. He/she will design package exteriors considering such factors as product identification, sales appeal,aesthetic quality, printing and production techniques.

  • Responsible for developing and maintaining Packaging Instructions for packers.

  • Review customer packaging requirements ensure flow down of proper standards.

  • Work with programs to determine requirements needed for product by understanding contractual obligations, programneeds and customer wants.

  • Work with packaging and marking requirements for the Government and DoD.

  • Familiar with plywood and crating process.

  • Oversee packaging materials inventory to maintain appropriate demand for shipment needs.

  • Ensure 5S work standards are applied and maintained to drive operational efficiency.

Basic Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications for a Level 2:

  • Bachelors of Science Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) with preference to Packaging Engineering degree

  • 2 years of relevant experience.

  • At least one year of packaging and/or material handling and/or design experience is required.

  • Familiarity with military and commercial packaging standards, including MIL-STD-2073 and ASTM.

  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance and US Citizenship .

Basic Qualifications for a Level 3:

  • Bachelors of Science Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) with preference to PackagingEngineering degree

  • 5 years of relevant experience.

  • At least one year of packaging and/or material handling and/or design experience is required.

  • Familiarity with military and commercial packaging standards, including MIL-STD-2073 and ASTM.

  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Six Sigma Green Belt Certified.

  • Department of Transportation (DOT) 49CFR Certified in US Domestic Hazardous Materials, Dangerous Good by Air and

Radioactive.

  • Experience with SAP or other Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems.

  • Demonstrate highly effective interpersonal and collaborative skills.

  • Leadership experience.

  • Proficiency in packaging or material handling design.

  • Active DoD Secret security clearance.
