SSSD has an opening for a Staff Electromechanical Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Redondo Beach, CA.
As a Staff Engineer, you will support the successful execution of development and production programs involving complex electromechanical hardware, moving mechanical assemblies, and large spacecraft deployables. This role will require a high-power individual with an intrinsic motivation to excel and a strong engineering acumen.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Serves as organization leader on advanced projects and/or programs
Acts as advisor to management and customers on advanced technical research studies and applications
Applies extensive subject matter expertise in mechanisms and deployable products while incorporating systems level thinking
Spearheads new products incorporating advanced technological ideas resulting in portfolio growth within the department
Works under consultative direction toward predetermined long-range goals and objectives
Champions new processes and engineering enhancements within the broader organization
Works on unusually complex technical problems and provides solutions which are highly imaginative and ingenious
Authors technical task descriptions and provides comparative cost analysis for proposal replies
Plans and executes project work packages spanning all phases of product development
Leads material review boards and failure review boards while orchestrating root cause and correct action analysis
Employs strong interpersonal and communication skills as a prime spokesperson to management and customers
Erroneous decisions would typically result in failure to achieve critical organizational objectives

B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related STEM technical discipline from an ABET accredited university with 14 years of engineering professional experience; OR M.S degree in Mechanical Engineering or related STEM technical discipline from an ABET accredited university with 12 years of engineering professional experience; OR PhD in Mechanical Engineering or related STEM technical discipline from an ABET accredited university with 9 years of engineering professional experience
Must have experience with hardware systems engineering, including requirements development, trade studies, and verification planning
Must have experience with design, test, and integration of deployable structures for space applications
Must have experience with subcontract technical management (STM)
Must have experience with Earned Value Management
Must have experience with industry standard CAD software (CATIA or CREO)
Must have an active U.S. Government security clearance at the Top Secret level AND an active SCI clearance
M.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering or related STEM technical discipline from an ABET accredited university
Experience with actuators, release devices, control systems, and multi-body dynamics
Experience with spearheading of process improvements and standardized tools
Experience with ENOVIA Product Lifecycle Management
