Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems sector is seeking a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer/Sr. Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Redondo Beach, CA.

Basic Job Responsibilities:

  • Support the structural design activities of the F-35 Engineering team, with focus on metallic structures.

  • Execute engineering design projects on schedule (BTPs, Mod Drawings, Production support).

  • Support the creation and presentation of reports to document the progress and results of projects.

  • Coordination with manufacturing engineering counterparts for production line support, and producibility and affordability intivatives.

  • Support fleet repairs and design modifications of delivered aircraft.

  • This individual will utilize 3D parametric solid modeling using CATIA V5 and Teamcenter Product Data Manager to support design tasks.

  • The candidate should also have an understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles

  • Opportunity to work closely with Design Team Lead as an understudy to schedule and check team assignments, with a possibility for future growth into a team lead.

Basic Qualifications for Principal Mechanical Design Engineer:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an accredited university with 5 years of professional engineering experience, or Master of Science in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited university with 3 years of professional engineering experience.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to interface with all levels of employees and management.

  • Experience with industry standard design tools and processes including 3D parametric modeling software.

  • Experience with commercial or military aircraft.

  • Proven ability to lead small teams or projects to measurable results on complex technical issues.

  • Experience scheduling assignments for engineering team with respect to supply chain lead times and manufacturing need dates.

  • Experience providing design and producibility support to a high-rate, multi-product assembly line environment.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.

Basic Qualifications for Sr. Principal Mechanical Design Engineer:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an accredited university with 9 years of professional engineering experience, or Master of Science in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited university with 7 years of professional engineering experience.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to interface with all levels of employees and management.

  • Experience with industry standard design tools and processes including 3D parametric modeling software.

  • Experience with commercial or military aircraft.

  • Proven ability to lead small teams or projects to measurable results on complex technical issues.

  • Experience scheduling assignments for engineering team with respect to supply chain lead times and manufacturing need dates.

  • Experience providing design and producibility support to a high-rate, multi-product assembly line environment.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5000 hours or greater of prior experience with CATIA V5

  • 2000 hours or greater of prior experience with Teamcenter Product Data Manager

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Aerospace, Civil, or General Engineering.

  • Experience creating and developing preliminary engineering designs and layouts.

  • Experience supporting manufacturing operations with design for producibility, affordability, issue investigation, and creating innovative solutions to complex problems.

  • Certification in Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) is advantageous.

  • Active DoD Secret Clearance
