Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems Sector is seeking a Manager Mechanical Engineering 3 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will lead a growing statement of work within the Space Mechanisms Engineering Team in Redondo Beach, CA.
The Space Mechanisms Engineering Team Sub-Project Manager (SPM) position provides engineering oversight and project management of a Mechanisms and Sensors (M&S) Integrated Product Team (IPT) which consists of approximately 45 engineering manager/contributor direct reports and dotted line manufacturing and technician support personnel. The SPM functionally reports to the Department Manager of Mechanisms and Deployable Products (MDP) within the Vehicle Integration & Subsystems (VI&S) Center with dotted line reporting to the Program Director for Control and Power Systems (CPS). SPM responsibilities include performing program leadership and Cost Account Management (CAM) activities associated with the execution of program objectives and management of related design, development, production, integration, test, delivery and certification of space vehicle actuator and mechanism products. The SPM additionally supports technology and business development activities, proposals, and design reviews. This role may also require support to suppliers and external partners for technology and business development, proposals, design reviews, procurement activities, and cost/schedule account management, as required.
The successful candidate will be a self-starter, organized, independently directed with good problem solving skills, able to perform effectively despite concurrent work tasks and will possess strong communication, leadership, and team building skills.
Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical engineering, Aerospace engineering, or related technical discipline required from an accredited institution.
7years of professional experience with BS degree required.
At least 5 years of prior technical experience related to space vehicle or product design, along with a track record of leading a highly skilled team and suppliers in the design, integration and production phases of Space Vehicle products or systems within schedule, labor, and material cost requirements is required.
SCI security clearance is required.
Master of Science Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering preferred.
Active DoD Secret and/or SCI security clearance is preferred.
Experience with the design, development, and implementation of aerospace mechanical systems as well as a working knowledge of complex mechanical subsystems and integration of subsystems hardware into Spacecraft Systems is advantageous.
Experience with industry standard design tools including CATIA V5, Enovia, AIAA S-114-2005 Mechanical Moving Assemblies and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerance (GD&T) applications is preferred.
Prior technical subcontracts management experience is desirable.
