SSSD has an opening for a Mechanical Technician 1 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be in Redondo Beach, California.
Performs a variety of duties assisting mechanical engineers in the development, assembly and integration of Space Vehicle mechanical and electro-mechanical components, assemblies, and systems. Devises, fabricates, and assembles new or modified mechanical components or assemblies. Participates in the development of sub-system and system test methodology. Assists with setting up and tests complete prototype and flight units and sub-assemblies under operational conditions. Specifically for this position the technician will perform Precision welding, needle point and hand stitching, high precision assembly, structural spot bonding, flight hardware lifts and test support. Individual must be able to demonstrate to Quality Assurance that work performed meets engineering drawing requirements. Works with chemicals. This position may be required to perform other duties as assigned. Must be willing to work any shift and extended work weeks.

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.
Basic Qualifications:
For level 1 Mechanical Technician:
High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) required or 0 years additional education and/or related experience
For level 2 Mechanical Technician:
High School diploma or equivalent and 2 years additional education and/or related experience.
US Citizenship required
Knowledge of needlepoint and or hand and machine sewing operations
Must have an active SCI clearance
Willing to work any shift and cover extended work weeks as required
Hands-on knowledge and experience with the use of a variety of hand tools
Ability to work on elevated surfaces in a laying down position for long periods of time.
Preferred Qualifications:
AA degree or other two-year technical degree
Demonstrate technical knowledge in manufacturing operations and procedures as it pertains to mechanical assembly, harnessing with a high attention to detail
Familiar with Northrop Grumman Corporation processes
Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office to supplement work order and other data requirements
Comprehension with reading drawings, process specification, and work order instructions
Experience working in clean room environments
Proficient in use of precision measuring instruments
Current SCI Clearance
Salary Range: $44,600 - $74,400
Salary Range 2: $53,000 - $88,300
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
