Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems is seeking a Mechanical Engineer 3 to work in Redondo Beach, California.

This Mechanical Engineer 3 will support the design and analysis of manufacturing tooling, shipping containers, authoring of engineering documentation and manufacturing work instructions. Additionally, the successful candidate will apply knowledge of assembly flows for production floor efforts including the development of Manufacturing Bills of Materials (MBOMs) from Engineering Bills of Materials (EBOMs). Critical aspects of this role include the understanding of configuration control, quality assurance, material & processes, contamination requirements and design practices. Mechanical Engineer 3 is expected to effectively communicate with team members, project and functional managers and internal cross-functional customers. These include the ability to interface with various levels of personnel including internal shop floor personnel, engineers, program and functional leads.

Essential Functions

  • Design and definition of the manufacturing processes, procedures, and production layouts for assemblies and equipment used within the operation

  • Design and definition of work flows within the facilities to ensure the most efficient and productive layout and process

  • Define the order of operations (flow) for manufactured assemblies and subassemblies

  • Develop detailed work instructions for manufactured assemblies, subassemblies, and packaging

  • Guide Manufacturing/Production and plan for successful Preliminary Design Review/ Critical Design Review (PDR/CDR) on multiple programs

  • Plan for and conduct Production and Test Readiness Reviews

  • Define and Develop the Manufacturing Bill of Materials within the MRP system (SAP) to include structuring for manufacturability to meet the most efficient material and process workflow for the integration operations.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) field from an accredited institution and 5 years of engineering experience in an aerospace environment OR

  • Masters of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) field from an accredited institution and 3 years of engineering experience in an aerospace environment

  • Practical working experience with designing and defining the process and procedures for assemblies and equipment

  • Technical experience with developing Manufacturing Bills of Materials (MBOMS)

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters’ Degree in Mechanical Engineering

  • Possesses strong leadership qualities, as well as strong verbal and written communication skills
