Northrop Grumman Strategic Space Systems Division (SSSD) has an opening for a qualified, mission-oriented Mechanical Design Integration Engineer/Principal Mechanical Design Integration Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals in the Vehicle Products Center. This position will be located in Redondo Beach, California.
The Mechanical Design Integration Engineer will be responsible for engineering the architecture layouts, development of structures, thermal management, and electrical interfaces, integration of the subcontracted bus and payloads, and successful test and delivery of the space vehicle.
Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Perform requirements definition, conceptual design, preliminary/layout, and detail design, drawing release, design review presentations, and support to fabrication/integration
Perform bus equipment layout, payload layout, preliminary cable and harness routing (DC, RF, Waveguide)
Responsible for cost and schedule associated with SOW
Collaborate with IPTL in the development of the integration schedule
Resolve system level issues and constraints, such as thermal, dynamics, and critical clearances
Work closely with stress, manufacturing, M&P, and test to develop design requirements, define structural load paths, develop CAD models, and prepare engineering drawings to fabricate flight and structural test articles.
Interface with other cross-functional groups, customers, and vendors
Provide I&T Sustaining support
Provide technical oversight
Responsible for source control drawings, interface control drawings, & installation drawings.
Lead and participate in system level trades to ensure the vehicle design meets all physical, mechanical and environmental requirements while accommodating the required payload, power, propulsion, thermal, communications and attitude control system requirements
Supports Program milestone reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, IDR, etc.) and Gate Closure/Lien Closures

This requisition may be filled at either a Mechanical Design Integration Engineer level or a Principal Mechanical Design Integration Engineer level based on the qualifications listed below.
Basic Qualifications for a Mechanical Design Integration Engineer:
Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university with 2 years of engineering experience OR Master's Degree in STEM with 0 years of engineering experience.
Prior work experience in space subsystems design and integration, mechanical design integration, or related engineering experience.
Candidate must currently have, and be able to maintain, a Department of Defense Top Secret clearance and/or SCI Access.
Proficiency in a CAD system.
Basic Qualifications for a Principal Mechanical Design Integration Engineer:
Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university with 5 years of engineering experience OR Master's Degree in STEM with 3 years of engineering experience OR Ph.D. in STEM with 0 years of engineering experience.
Prior work experience in space subsystems design and integration, mechanical design integration, or related engineering experience.
Candidate must currently have, and be able to maintain, a Department of Defense Top Secret clearance and/or SCI Access.
Proficiency in a CAD system.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with spacecraft integration and test
Active Department of Defense Top Secret clearance with a background investigation date within 6 years AND Active SCI access with a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) completed within 6 years
Proficiency in CATIA V5
EVMS/CAM, and Project Management experience
Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering

Salary Range: $85,000 - $127,400
Salary Range 2: $104,600 - $157,000
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
