Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems has an opening for a Systems Engineer5 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. NGAS is seeking a motivated engineer to perform technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems. Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.

This role is responsible for leading the autonomy and fault management (AFM) effort on the James Webb Space Telescope project. Duties include verification and validation (including test support, data review, analysis and documentation), leading reviews, and operations support (display/controls design, exercises, rehearsals, and launch support).

Essential Functions:

-Comprehensive leadership including providing status at Program Management Reviews, leading the AFM Verification and Validation Audit (V2A), management of cost and schedule with respect to measurable tasks, and responding to customer-initiated reviews and audits.

-Verification test planning, test support, data analysis and completion of Requirements Verification Reports (RVRs) to support sell-off. This includes responding to customer comments to submitted RVRs as well as review of RVRs submitted by others. A basic understanding and familiarity with flight software is required.

-Support of flight and ground operations efforts. This includes designing AFM displays for flight consoles, participation in exercises and rehearsals, and flight support at the Space Telescope Science Institute.

Candidates must be overall system/big picture thinkers with demonstrated experience in systems engineering and technical management. Additional characteristics include proven ability to interface with many diverse technical disciplines, excellent communications skills with customers, peers and management, agility in problem solving, and the ability to learn new technology areas quickly.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an ABETaccredited university and14+ years of Systems Engineering experience in an aerospace/defense environment OR

-Master's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an ABET accredited university and12+ years of Systems Engineering experience in an aerospace/defense environment OR

-PhD Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an ABET accredited university and 9+ years of Systems Engineering experience in an aerospace/defense

  • Ability to rapidly learn and apply new technologies and AFM processes

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Systems engineering experience with complex systems

  • Familiarity with engineering test beds (EMTB/FBT) and spacecraft integration and test (I&T)

  • Familiarity with flight operations procedures

  • CAM experience

  • Experience writing and executing test procedures and evaluating test data

  • Background in software engineering

  • Experience with fault management/diagnostics/health and safety

  • Excellent communications skills with both internal and external customers
