Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems Sector is seeking an Electromechanical Engineer 3 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will lead a growing statement of work within the Space Mechanisms Design Engineering Team in Redondo Beach, CA.
The Space Mechanisms Responsible Design Engineer position provides technical leadership for space actuation systems & mechanism design initiatives with primary technical responsibility for requirements development, conceptualization and layout, design trade-off, feasibility studies and proposals, formulating models for new/modified designs, evaluating complex aspects of mechanism design and integration (electro-mechanics, tribology, precision design/manufacturing, kinematics, modeling and simulation, rapid prototyping), detail design and analysis of mechanical subsystems, and representing the engineering organization in providing solutions to difficult technical challenges associated with mechanical products. This role may require support to suppliers and external partners for technology and business development, proposals, design reviews, procurement activities, and cost/schedule account management, as required.
The successful candidate will be a self-starter, organized, independently directed with good problem solving skills, able to perform effectively despite concurrent work tasks and will possess strong communication, leadership, and team building skills.
Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical engineering, Aerospace engineering, or related technical discipline required from an ABET accredited university.
Minimum of 3 years direct, relevant technical experience with space actuation, space mechanism, and/or space deployable systems required.
An active, in-scope SCI security clearance is required.
Master of Science Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering preferred.
Minimum of 5 years professional engineering experience desirable.
Experience with industry standard design tools including CATIA V5, Enovia, AIAA S-114-2005 Mechanical Moving Assemblies and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerance (GD&T) applications is preferred.
Experience with the design, development, and implementation of aerospace mechanical systems as well as a working knowledge of complex mechanical subsystems and integration of subsystems hardware into Spacecraft Systems is advantageous.
