The Measurements Engineering section working under the Environmental TestDepartment is seeking a degreed engineer to join our diverse team in Redondo Beach, CA. Our team supports the testing of both aircraft and spacecraft flight hardware.
You will utilize your Mechanical, Electrical, and Computer skills to work with the disciplines of Thermal, Dynamics, Structures and Wind Tunnel Test. This opportunity is unique since you will be working in the world of digital data acquisition, sensors, instrumentation, and applications programming. Your diverse skills will find you working closely with floor Integration & Test Operations performing thermal testing, vibration, acoustic, or shock testing, static & fatigue testing, and in applications involving wind tunnel data collection & reduction.
Assignments range from utilizing our high speed data systems, upgrade or maintenance of data systems, thermal heater control applications, operating load control systems, programming of stepper motors, using wireless technology, and an opportunity to work in our wind tunnels.
Prerequisites include: Basic mechanical & electronics theory, computer programming skills, good interpersonal and communication skills, technical writing, analytical & computational skills, self-starter, and willingness to use a hands-on approach to solving problems.
BS Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) related field and 2 years of related experience, OR a MS in a STEM field with no experience
Understanding of basic mechanical & electronics theory
Computer programming skills
Technical writing, analytical & computational skills
Ability to obtain and maintain DoD Secret clearance
Degree in a Computer Science, Mechanical, Electrical or Aero Engineering related educational field
An understanding of electronic circuitry, the use of real-time data systems, and application of sensors measuring load, displacement, rate, temperature or pressure is desired
Some exposure to structural proof tests that require hydraulic loads control
Specific load control systems such as MOOG and Cyber systems are preferred
Understanding of basic instrumentation such as load cells and displacement systems
The preferred candidate should have a background familiar with mechanical assembly & test, applications using analog electronics & transducers, and strong programming skills utilizing Visual Basic.net, Advanced Excel user, VBA,or LABVIEW
Strain Gage Design & installation experience
Understand Hardware Design/DAS, 2D CAD experience preferred
Exposure to Material Testing, Deployment/Functional/Proof Testing
Any academic knowledge of test, measurement & control engineering theory & applications would be helpful
Good interpersonal and communication skills, technical writing, analytical & computational skills, self-starter, and willingness to use a hands-on approach to solving problems
