Northrop Grumman, Strategic Space Systems Division, has an opening for a Contamination Control Engineer OR Principal Contamination Control Engineer to join our team of highly qualified and diverse individuals. This position will be located in Redondo Beach, California.
As a Contamination Control Engineer/Principal Contamination Control Engineer, you will be expected to support the overall Contamination Control approach on programs building space flight products in various stages of development. Preferred candidate will be a self-starter able to work independently or in small teams.
Define and implement program Contamination Controls that meet program on-orbit performance requirements by deriving cleanliness requirements for on-orbit operation, manufacturing, integration, and test
Support Systems Engineering in the development, flow down, and verification of cleanliness requirements
Support Design Engineering and Materials and Process Engineering with the design and material selection of flight and non-flight hardware; reviewing drawings for material applicability, outgassing, coatings, etc.
Interface with interdisciplinary teams consisting of Responsible Design Engineers, Material and Process Engineers, Systems Engineers, Quality/Mission Assurance, Program Management, and program customers to execute the program Contamination Control approach
Work with facilities engineers to design, build, and repair cleanroom facilities

This position's standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.
Basic Qualifications for Contamination Control Engineer (level 2):
Bachelor's Degree (Chemical/Systems Engineering or Chemistry/Physics preferred) with a minimum of 2 years prior relevant experience in the space industry OR Master's Degree (Chemical/Systems Engineering or Chemistry/Physics preferred) with a minimum of 0 years prior relevant experience in the space industry
Have an understanding of Contamination Control requirements and implementation approaches for space flight hardware development
Ability to work in a cleanroom environment, including wearing full body cleanroom garments
Ability to work flexible hours, including overtime, with potential weekend coverage
Top Secret clearance
Basic Qualifications for Principal Contamination Control Engineer (level 3):
Bachelor's Degree (Chemical/Systems Engineering or Chemistry/Physics preferred) with a minimum of 5 years prior relevant experience in the space industry OR Master's Degree (Chemical/Systems Engineering or Chemistry/Physics preferred) with a minimum of 3 years prior relevant experience in the space industry
Have an understanding of Contamination Control requirements and implementation approaches for space flight hardware development
Ability to work in a cleanroom environment, including wearing full body cleanroom garments
Ability to work flexible hours, including overtime, with potential weekend coverage
Top Secret clearance
Preferred Skills:
Have an understanding of industry contamination control standards: IEST-STD-CC1246, ISO 14644, FED-STD-209, and ASTM standards
Have an understanding of thermal vacuum chambers and vacuum bakeout procedures, including the use of QCM instruments
Experience generating and applying molecular outgassing models
Experience working directly with contamination critical hardware

Salary Range: $77,100 - $115,700
Salary Range 2: $95,000 - $142,400
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
