Are you ready to start defining possible with Northrop Grumman? If so, our Defense Systems is seeking a motivated professional to serve as a Principal Technical Writer / Editor to join our diverse team of professionals located in Palmdale, CA.
You will derive information from released technical source and/or may assist in the development of them with engineers and SMEs. Using the source materials, you are expected to interpret, formulate, affect data and will write, re-write and/or edit technical documents such as technical procedure manuals, user manuals, programming manuals, service manuals, operational specifications, and related technical publications to communicate clearly and effectively technical specifications and instructions to a wide range of audiences. You will acquire subject knowledge by interviewing product developers, observing performance of production methods, referring to technical specifications, blueprints, engineering illustrations, and trade journals.
You will also identify and resolve moderate scope and complexity discrepancies within engineering drawings and blueprints that may impact data. Coordinate findings with team members and may refer findings to established precedents and policies to include consulting the engineering group and SMEs. You will assist in the review of products with the customer and can advise its proper use. You will also need to be able to negotiate and integrate different viewpoints, relay, and receive information and collaborate in a team environment.

Basic Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent and 10 years relevant technical writing experience; Bachelors degree (Technical or Professional Writing, English, or Communications) and 6 years of relevant technical writing experience; or Masters degree and 4 years of relevant experience.
Experience as a military aircraft maintainer.
Experience in aviation maintenance technical publication development and sustainment using applicable software (e.g. Arbortext Editor).
Have strong writing, and editing skills, and experience in manipulating grammar.
Experience in querying authors for clarity and compliance purposes.
Skilled in Microsoft Word, MS excel, and PowerPoint.
Possess an active DoD Secret security clearance and be able to maintain that clearance.
Ability to obtain and retain Special Program access clearance within 365 days from submission.
Preferred Qualifications:
Active DoD Top Secret security clearance.
History of collaboration in small teams with different organizations
Proficient in the interpretation of engineering data such as parts list, application list, notes list and print reading.
Experienced with configuration management.
Experienced in creating multi-configuration, multi-effectivity indentured parts lists from engineering data.
Ability to identify and possibly work around limited engineering data.
Experienced with creating and revising IPB's using MIL-DTL-38807 or MIL-PRF-38807.
Salary Range: $78,500 - $117,700
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
