Are you ready to put your experience to work at Northrop Grumman? If so, we want you to join our team as a Principal Technical Editor and writer. This position is located in Palmdale, CA.

You will write, rewrite and/or edit technical documents such as technical procedure manuals, user manuals, programming manuals, service manuals, operational specifications, and related technical publications to communicate clearly and effectively technical specifications and instructions to a wide range of audiences. You will also acquire subject knowledge by interviewing product developers, observing performance of production methods, referring to technical specifications, blueprints, engineering illustrations, and trade journals. You will negotiate and integrate different viewpoints, relay, and receive information and collaborate in a team environment. In a Scrum master role, you will work under a production schedule, oversee preparation of illustrative materials, selecting drawings, sketches, diagrams and charts. Conduct quality review of materials and will mentor and/or instructs junior writers.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 10 years of relevant experience with a high school diploma or equivalent; or 6 years with a B.S. or B.A. degree (Technical or Professional Writing, English, or Communications); 4 year with a Masters degree.

  • Experience in technical editing and writing and have strong writing and editing skills, including ability to manipulate usage and grammar.

  • Experience in aviation or aerospace industry.

  • Experience in file configuration management.

  • Experience in querying authors for clarity and compliance purposes.

  • Skilled in Microsoft Word, MS excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Possess an active DoD Secret security clearance and be able to maintain that clearance.

  • Ability to obtain and retain Special Program access clearance within 365 days from submission.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active DoD Top Secret security clearance.

  • History of collaboration in small teams with different organizations.

  • Proficient in the interpretation of engineering data such as parts list, application list, notes list and print reading.

  • Experienced with configuration management.

  • Experienced in creating multi-configuration, multi-effectivity indentured parts lists from engineering data.

  • Ability to identify and possibly work around limited engineering data.

  • Experienced with creating and revising IPB’s using MIL-DTL-38807 or MIL-PRF-38807.

Salary Range: $80,600 - $121,000

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
