Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Principal Structural Analysis Engineer/Senior Principal Structural Engineer to join our team of qualified diverse individuals. In Vehicle Engineering, we develop manned and unmanned aircraft platforms for all programs in the Aeronautics Systems Sector.

This position will be located in Palmdale, CA and will support a 9/80 work shift.

We are looking for Engineers who might have specific structural engineering specialties which may include dynamics and loads, stability and stress fatigue and thermal analysis. Your day-to-day activities will be to analyze, research and develop structural engineering analysis packages involving metals, non-metallic or composite structural materials for product design, or operation of product.

This might include structures, mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronics, power plant, armament, heating and ventilating, equipment and maintenance designs. You will analyze damage tolerance, durability, design allowables and structural modeling.

This position may be filled at either the Principal Structural Analysis Engineer OR Senior Principal Structural Analysis Engineer level. Basic Qualifications for these levels are as listed below:

Basic Qualifications for Principal Structural Analysis Engineer:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM field with 5 years of relevant experience OR a Master's Degree in a STEM field with 3 years of relevant experience OR a PhD in a STEM field with 0 years of relevant experience.

  • Experience in Structural Analysis Methods and documentation, including hand-sheet analysis, as well as the development and manipulation of large Finite Element Models.

  • Active DoD Secret or Top Secret clearance.

  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance prior to the commencement of employment. This clearance must be obtained within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company to meet its business needs.

Basic Qualifications for Senior Principal Structural Analysis Engineer:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM field with 9 years of relevant experience OR a Master's Degree in a STEM field with 7 years of relevant experience OR a PhD in a STEM field with 4 years of relevant experience.

  • Experience in Structural Analysis Methods and documentation, including hand-sheet analysis, as well as the development and manipulation of large Finite Element Models.

  • Active DoD Secret or Top Secret clearance.

  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance prior to the commencement of employment. This clearance must be obtained within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company to meet its business needs

Preferred Qualifications for both levels:

  • Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering

  • Aerospace structural analysis experience using NASTRAN, PATRAN, or FEMAP.

  • Experience in Bonded Composite Structural Analysis of primary and secondary aircraft structures

  • Experience with analysis of composite and/or metallic structure and repair methods

  • Experience in structural testing (building block or full-scale test)

  • Experience as a Lead Engineer managing a small group of analysts

  • Analysis experience in a MRB role

  • Experience working on Special Access Programs

  • Experience working on military aircraft

  • Experience with durability and damage tolerance (DaDT) of aircraft structures

Salary Range: $104,600 - $157,000

Salary Range 2: $129,700 - $194,500

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
