Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Mechanical Engineer - Materials and Process/Principal Mechanical Engineer - Materials and Process to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Palmdale, CA.

**This position may be filled by either a Mechanical Engineer - Materials and Process level or a Principal Mechanical - Materials and Process level based on the qualifications listed.

Essential Functions:

  • The selected candidate will be responsible for analyzing, researching, and developing materials and their related application processes for use in engineering design of and/or application in structures, systems and subsystems.

  • The candidate will apply principles of chemistry, physics, and material science to investigate material issues and provide solutions.

  • The candidate will work in a team environment with other engineering organization performing detailed technical reviews of drawings, specifications and manufacturing plans.

Basic Qualifications:

Mechanical Engineer - Materials and Process (T02):

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) related field with 2 or more years of engineering experience or MS with 0 years or more year of engineering experience or Ph.D. with 0 or more years of engineering experience

  • Ability to obtain and maintain in-scope DOD Secret clearance or DOD Top Secret Clearance

  • Ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access (SAP/PAR) to start

  • Experience in Aerospace/Composites M&P

  • Familiarity with composite pre-pregs, honeycombs, and adhesive materials; fabrication, assembly, and repair processes for aircraft composite structures, familiar with metallic materials and processes

Basic Qualifications:

Principal Mechanical Engineer - Materials and Process (T03):

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) related field with 5 or more years of engineering experience or MS with 3 years or more year of engineering experience or Ph.D. with 2 or more years of engineering experience

  • Ability to obtain and maintain in-scope DOD Secret clearance or DOD Top Secret Clearance

  • Ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access (SAP/PAR) to start

  • Experience in Aerospace/Composites M&P

  • Familiarity with composite pre-pregs, honeycombs, and adhesive materials; fabrication, assembly, and repair processes for aircraft composite structures, familiar with metallic materials and processes

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Experience with working on military aircraft

  • Experience preparing and presenting oral and written reports

  • Master's degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Material Science

  • Experience with material obsolescence issues and qualifying materials

  • Experience with LO materials

Salary Range: $79,300 - $118,900

Salary Range 2: $97,500 - $146,300

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
