An organization within Northrop Grumman’s Payload and Ground Systems (PGS) division, Mission Enabling Products (MEP) is a leading designer, producer, and supplier of spacecraft components that power and enable satellites of all classes. Our Deployables team in Oxnard, CA has an opening for a Quality Inspector 2/3 . The Quality Inspector will perform required inspections (visual, dimensional, load tests, etc.) on mechanical, electrical or structural components or systems to ensure conformance with the quality requirements for spacecraft components and associated systems.
Overview
Reporting to the Test Inspection Manager, the Quality Inspector should have technical strengths in verification of requirements specified for operations, products, processes, and documents. Must possess the ability to plan and organize work in order to effectively and successfully accomplish assigned tasks. Accurately interpret drawings and specifications. Be strategic in the identification of technical needs and solutions coupled with a strong program execution focus. Must be comfortable working in a cleanroom environment. Possess excellent communication skills and effectively interface with Deployables technical and non-technical department members, suppliers, and customers.
This position may be filled at either a level 2 or level 3.
Responsibilities:
Uses predetermined methods, operations, setups, and prescribed specifications to inspect visually in-process and completed products.
Perform required inspections (visual, dimensional, and functional, etc.) on spacecraft components.
Uses various measuring devices, such as caliper, micrometer, comparator, pin gages, and Coordinate Measuring Machine.
This job has decision-making responsibilities with regards to the acceptance or rejection of work and tests performed.
Inspects and performs tests on mechanical, electrical, or structural components and assemblies related to spacecraft components and sub-assemblies. Inspections vary from close tolerance dimensional checks to general surveillance of the work in progress.
Accepts, rejects, or reworks defective or malfunctioning units or systems.
Work from drawings, diagrams, customer specifications, and inspection instructions.
Basic Qualifications for a level 2:
High school diploma or GED and at least 2 years of additional education and/or direct experience in a quality assurance or inspection role
Experience utilizing various measuring devices, such as caliper, micrometer, comparator, gages, pin gages, and other inspection tools
Experience with electronics workmanship standards such as IPC-A-610 and IPC-A-620 and other related specifications
Experience soldering to J-STD-001 standards
Experience in Aerospace manufacturing, mechanical assemblies, and/or electronic assemblies
Understanding of GD&T with the ability to read and comprehend detail control plans, work instructions, drawings, Bill of Materials, Specifications and related criteria
US Citizenship required
Basic Qualification for a level 3:
- Same qualifications as above, but with 4 years of related experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Strong Computer skills
Ability to read and comprehend detail control plans, work instructions, drawings, Bill of Materials, Specifications and related criteria
Good written and oral communication skills with the ability to interface across the organization to achieve effective results
Experience working in a team environment to solve problems and balance workloads.
Experience using Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM)
Salary Range: $48,600 - $81,000
Salary Range 2: $57,800 - $96,300
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
