Northrop Grumman Manager, Software Engineering 3 in Orlando, Florida

Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) seeks to fill a Manager Level 3 Software & Digital Technologies (SWDT) position for Central Region Engineering (CRE) physically located at our Orlando, FL location.

The selected candidate will be responsible for the overall direction, leadership, and management of the NGMS CRE SWDT Functional Organization at the Orlando and Melbourne facilities and other locations as needed with ES&T and program growth. This role encompasses team leadership, management, and technical performance for approximately 100 employees. The selected candidate will report to the Director of SWDT for NGMS Central Region Engineering who is located in Huntsville, AL.

Responsibilities include:

  • Functional oversight for a team of SWDT managers, who in turn manage teams of SWDT engineers of varied disciplines working multiple initiatives for the Secure & Network Operations (SNO), including follow-on contracts, new business growth opportunities, internal research and development, and capital projects.

  • Leadership to support and ensure adherence to standard SWDT processes, oversight of cost, schedule, and technical quality for SWDT execution on all development efforts; provide technical oversight of SWDT activities on key programs, including functional reviews for major milestone events (SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR, etc.), as well as, agile review milestones and demonstrations.

  • Staffing and workload forecast; employee inclusion, engagement, mentoring and career development; employee training and identification and training of skills required to execute on programs; management and execution of employee performance review processes; and leadership and execution for a multitude of functional management processes.

  • Recruiting of new talent to meet staffing commitments.

  • Active participation in the sector systems engineering initiatives from the NGMS Software Engineering Center of Excellence (SW COE) and other NG sector engineering organizations as defined.

  • Supporting Model Based Engineering (MBE), Product Line Architecture (PLA), agile development methodologies, continuous integration, common processes and tools, reuse, and other SWDT initiatives that provide a competitive advantage through affordability and quality to our customers.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required. Partnering with the other discipline leads and program management will be critical in this role.

This candidate will demonstrate a broad skill set that is balanced between interpersonal, business, and technical capabilities. He / she will have an ability to operate in a team environment and collaborate across the sector business areas as required to accomplish the team goals. The candidate will work closely with the directors and managers of other engineering disciplines, program directors and program managers. The ideal candidate will also be able to champion change within the organization, to achieve competitive advantage for the business.

Travel to multiple managed sites is expected to maintain appropriate communication and ensure engagement at all levels.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors of Science degree in a technical discipline and a minimum of 7 years ofrelated experience in an aerospace or defense oriented engineering environment.

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience working in software engineering (requirements definition, design, development, test).

  • Experience in all aspects of software engineering processes.

  • Proven demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

  • Effective communication and presentation skills.

  • High proficiency in technical problem solving, to include decomposition, root cause analysis, solution development, implementation and monitoring.

  • This position requires the applicant to be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain an active DoD Secret clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Functional management experience, especially in a Software Engineering role.

  • Knowledge and working experience with NGMS Airborne C4ISR Systems Communications division missions.

  • Master's degree in a relevant technical or management specialty.

  • Familiar with the NGMS Playbook for Software or Digital Service Plays

  • Active DoD Secret clearance

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Clearance.
