Northrop Grumman Space Systems (NGSP) seeks to fill a Department Manager Level 3 Systems Engineering position in the Payload and Ground Systems Division. This is a dual role encompassing both people leadership and technical performance.

The INS BU Engineering Organization requires an Engineering Department Manager 3/Space Systems Site Lead manager experienced in Systems, Software and/or Hardware Engineering to lead a team that consists of Systems Engineers, Test Engineers, Software engineers, Network Engineers, Hardware Engineers, and System Administrators. The Department Manager will also have Sections Managers and engineers as direct reports. This position will be located in Morrisville, NC.

Candidate will ensure quality engineering support to programs, IRADs, CRADs, and new business pursuits. Responsibilities include employee inclusion to include day-to-day communications, employee engagement, performance management, career development, employee rewards and recognition, and resolving personnel issues. The responsibilities also include the recruiting, sourcing, onboarding of new employees, college and intern recruiting, development and advancement of engineering practices, identification of skill gaps, and increasing engineering competencies through strategic hiring and employee skills development.

The successful candidate will clearly demonstrate strong leadership skills to achieve sustainable top performance. They will have a track record as an effective communicator and problem solver who is able to develop and maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. This candidate will demonstrate a commitment to ethics and integrity, and the capability to innovate while challenging traditional ways of doing business. Demonstrated abilities to build diverse and inclusive teams with high levels of engagement, including mentoring and coaching, are a must. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required. This candidate will demonstrate a broad skill set that is balanced between interpersonal, business, and technical capabilities. The candidate will have an ability to operate in a team environment and collaborate across the sector business areas as required to accomplish the team goals. The candidate will work closely with managers of other engineering disciplines, program directors and program managers. The ideal candidate will also be able to champion change within the organization, to achieve competitive advantage for the business.

In addition, the candidate must have experience in Facility Management, as they will be working to assist and then sustain the current Space Systems build-out of space in Morrisville. They will be working with other facility, operations and program managers to ensure the space meets the needs of the INS Business Units and Operating Units for current and future efforts.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Active TS/SCI clearance

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related technical discipline + 9 years of exp; Master's + 7 years of exp; PhD + 4 years of exp; or in lieu of degree, 13 years of total engineering experience

  • Minimum 9 plus years of systems or software engineering experience

  • Minimum 5 years of leadership experience

  • Experience leading an engineering matrix environment.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Facility and operations experience

  • Strong practical knowledge of Engineering functional management.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active TS/SCI with poly

  • Knowledge of the Space or Ground Systems mission, development, or business area

  • Breadth of systems or software engineering experience on large or small programs, and business development activities

  • Program management and customer management skills.

  • Broad area of experience working in software development environment

  • Time management skills and a proven ability to follow through on actions.

  • People focused.

Salary Range: $164,200 - $246,400

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
