Northrop Grumman is seeking a DataScientist to become part of Northrop Grumman's organization supporting the Army Analytics Group's Research Facilitation Laboratory located in Monterey, California. The team conducts a variety of research studies and supports data analytics efforts for clients across the Army, Office of the Secretary of Defense and greater DoD, conducting high-quality research with practical real-world implications. The team works primarily within a data environment that houses a wealth of administrative, personnel, survey, and medical data (i.e., big data) on extremely large populations. Projects generally focus on resilience, health, and readiness among military service members, and include population-based studies, machine learning projects, visual analytics platforms, measurement analysis, and pilot program evaluations.

Candidates must have a Bachelor's Degree in Epidemiology, Statistics, Biostatistics, Applied Mathematics, Operations Research or other relevant field. Ideal candidates will have a Master's degree (or relevant experience), as well as advanced analytical skills, with demonstrated experience in analyses through advanced Machine Learning techniques. In addition, candidates should be comfortable with assembling and managing data using SQL in an Oracle database environment. Primary tasks include cleaning, preparing, merging, and analyzing large, population datasets from multiple sources. This position will:

Execute full life cycle data science as part of a cross discipline team

Transform and format data as needed (via SQL, Python, R, custom tools available)

Perform feature engineering and dimensional reduction (mastery of NNMF expected as well as understanding linear algebra behind other transformations)

Perform data analysis on diverse data sets

Create predictive and statistical Models (mastery of core types of regression methods, including logistic, sparse, covariance pattern modeling, and multi-level)

Comfortable with both generative and discriminatory modeling approaches

Can demonstrate an understanding of types of optimization schemes and situations for choosing a particular type

Program in mathematical/statistical languages: Matlab, R, BUGS, Stan, Python statistical and machine learning libraries

Apply modern machine learning algorithms (experience latest trends in Neural Networks helpful)

Comfortable working with both generative and discriminatory machine learning approaches

Demonstration of insight when applying range of optimization methods to a given modeling situation

Create data visualizations (python notebooks, R, Matlab, working with Tableau/UX SW developer

Test algorithm and model performance

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Epidemiology, Statistics, Biostatistics, Applied Mathematics, Operations Research or other relevant field.

Research or other relevant field and a minimum of 9 years of experience in Data Science. (Additional 4 years of applicable experience may be considered in lieu of completed degree)

Experience with Python, R and Matlab

Strong background in statistics with emphasis on Bayesian methods

Experience creating predictive models

Experience with database structures and query languages (Oracle and SQL)

Ability to work in fast-paced environment and deliver quality work products under tight deadlines

Strong analytical and problem solving skills

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's Degree

C++ and JAVA experience

Experience developing products centered on machine learning and optimization

Big Data experience (Hadoop, ect)

Experience with stochastic modeling, random walks, Gibbs sampling, MCMC

Experience with behavioral analytics
