Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Staff Vehicle Management Systems (VMS) Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Melbourne, FL .
Seeking an experienced candidate with 20+ years of experience in developing and leading teams responsible for real-time, embedded Computing Systems development and integration for safety critical systems. Primary responsibilities will include VMS Specification development, requirements definition, functional modeling, and VMS testing. In addition, engineer will support subsystems to VMS interfaces including managing requirements, design, testing and presenting updates to internal and external customers.
Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university with a minimum of 14 years experience in aircraft vehicle management systems or Master's Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university with a minimum of 12 years' experience in aircraft vehicle management systems.
Experience with developing and integrating components of a Vehicle Management System (VMS) including knowledge algorithms and techniques used in Vehicle and Flight control.
Experience designing, developing, integrating, verifying and qualifying safety-critical real-time embedded computing systems including experience with software, electronic hardware and systems engineering. (This experience should include developing technical specifications and being responsible for the technical aspects of procurement and oversight of computing system suppliers).
Experience developing real-time safety-critical software for VMS, using the C/C++ programming language.
Experience and demonstrated ability to lead and manage technical teams responsible for all aspects of safety-critical system development including job analysis, new product design, system architecture, software development, system integration and working with customers and other stakeholders to perform requirement definition.
Active DoD Secret clearance (or higher)
Active Secret DOD Security Clearance with last investigation date within 6 years
Candidate must be able to collaborate in a team environment, prioritize and adjust tasks to accomplish the project result, prioritize multiple responsibilities and/or accomplishing them simultaneously, and comprehend and analyze complex problems and develop solutions.
Knowledge and experience with system, software and hardware airworthiness certification standards for both military and civil computing systems. These standards include MIL-HDBK-516C, Mil-Std-882E, DO-178C, DO-254, ARP4754 and ARP4761.
Experience with protocols, ICD definition and integration of high performance data busses including SAE AS5643/MIL-1394, ARINC825 (CAN 1.0 & 2.0), Ethernet as well as experience with other serial bus technologies including RS-422/485, Mil-Std-1553, ARINC429, PCIe.
Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a large team environment in both leadership and individual contributor roles.
