Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has a contingent opening for an experienced Materials & Processes (M&P) Engineer specializing in non-destructive testing, evaluation, & inspection for airframe structures to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within our Vehicle Engineering organization. Positions are located in Melbourne, Florida and may be filled at the Staff (T05) level.
Key responsibilities:
Performs root cause analysis of material failures, provides effective solutions to production non-destructive testing, evaluation, & inspection issues
Generates test plans & reports
Analyzes, researches, designs and develops materials and their related fabrication and application processes to develop and optimize materials for use in engineering design of and/or application in structures, systems and subsystems
Applies principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to develop metallic and non-metallic processing specifications, fabrication and assembly processes
Develops, analyzes and applies material properties and design allowables, processing processes and quality engineering specifications
Material analyses may include failure analysis of components, systems and subsystems, life predictions, and definition and requirement specifications
Perform drawing reviews to ensure M&P requirements are satisfied
May review and approve subcontractor material processing procedures
May travel to subcontractor locations
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science (BS) with a minimum of 12 years of experience to include a background in non-destructive testing, evaluation, & inspection for structures OR a Master of Science (MS) degree with a minimum of 10 years of experience to include a background in non-destructive testing, evaluation, & inspection for structures Note: An additional 4 years of relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Experience in NDI
Experience with performing Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT) on composites
Experience with performing Eddy Current and Penetrant Inspection on metallics
Experience with repair processes for composite materials used in aerospace structures
Experience with ultrasonic (UT) NDI methods with regards to composite materials
Your ability to obtain and/or transfer and maintain the final adjudicated government secret clearance, and any program access(es) required for the position within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline such as Materials Science
Experience dispositioning engineering allowances in NDI
Experience with airframe strutures
Your ability to transfer and maintain the final adjudicated government secret clearance, and any program access(es) required for the position within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company.
Salary Range: $134,300 - $201,500
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
