Aerospace Systems Specialty Systems Engineering Department has an immediate opening for a Senior Principal Systems Safety Engineer with a strong working knowledge of Environmental, Safety, and Occupational Health responsible for System Safety Engineering and Airworthiness support, to provide the engineering team with application of safety policies and guidance. The candidate will join our System Safety Engineering team of qualified, diverse individuals. The position will be located in Melbourne, FL .

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Evaluates program ESOH compliance in the six areas stipulated in DoD 5000.2-R (ESOH Compliance, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) [including compliance with Executive Order (EO) 12114, Environmental Effects Abroad of Major Federal Actions , as applicable], Safety and Health, Hazardous Materials Management, Pollution Prevention, and Explosives Safety)

  • Interprets, recommends, and complies with environmental, health and safety regulations and/or company policies

  • Assists in planning for changes in physical facilities to meet environmental requirements

  • Prepares environmental impact statements

  • Reviews product systems, associated support equipment and facilities, functional specifications and operations, and establishes safety requirements for assigned systems

  • Independently analyzes and recommends safety criteria in system design, equipment and procedures to control or eliminate hazards

  • Develops safety documents as required to support customer and test/operational range requirements

  • Performs audits of operational areas and reports effectiveness of system safety program

  • Participates in accident investigations involving damage to products or related facilities and assists in identification of causes and corrective actions

  • Evaluates the interrelationship of system safety requirements and other aspects of concept design and development requirements to ensure the most cost effective program

  • Identifies Environmental Safety and Occupational Health (ESOH) risks and their status (risk identification) in accordance with MIL-STD-882E

  • Identifies hazardous materials

  • Supports customer occupational safety policy, programs and procedures to provide a safe work environment and to enhance the safety of personnel to maintain combat capability and readiness

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university with 9+ years of experience or Master's Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university with 7+ years of experience or a PhD in STEM and 4+ years of experience.

  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret or Top Secret Clearance as well as Program Special access within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science, Occupational Safety & Health

  • Experience working with other functional groups to identify safety hazards and environmental aspects associated with manufacturing/ testing of aircraft and aircraft systems

  • Sound knowledge of relevant regulations and legislation dealing with OSHA, ANSI, NFPA and EPA

  • Effectively able to communicate and present to all levels of an organization

  • Strong organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint

  • Ability to prioritize and adjust tasks to accomplish the project

  • Ability to collaborate in and work in a team environment

  • Ability to comprehend and analyze complex problems and develop solutions

  • Secret or Top Secret clearance preferred
