Northrop Grumman’s Aeronautics Systems sector is seeking a Sr Principal Weapons Aerodynamics and Stores Separation Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals in defining the future. This position will be located in Melbourne, FL.
Responsibilities
Perform aerodynamic characterization efforts utilizing analytical methods
Plan, coordinate, execute and oversee wind tunnel test including two body separation tests
Conduct aircraft separation analyses
Stand up, Develop and manage tools for conceptual design and aircraft grid creation and perform
Support conceptual and preliminary design efforts of aircraft and components
Produce analysis products that calculate aerodynamic loads on separating bodies
Progress infrastructure for databases, codes, and tools management
Drive and support wind tunnel, ground, and flight testing
Develop test methods for weapons experimental aerodynamic and performance characterization
Execute uncertainty analyses
Collaborate closely with cross-functional and program-based teams
Represent work products in customer meetings and design reviews
Collaborate with other disciplines including Configuration, Aerodynamics, S&RE, CFD, Mechanisms, etc.
Able to work self-directed
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor of Science (BS) in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline and 8 years of relevant experience; OR Master of Science (MS) in a STEM discipline and 6 years of relevant experience
Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance
Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance.
Experience partnering with a multidisciplinary engineering team to develop aircraft and subsystems
Experience with aerodynamic tools and techniques,
Understanding of the challenges of flow fields in subsonic, transonic and super sonic
Familiarity with translating aerodynamic analyses into workable design solutions for flight vehicles
Generate aerodynamic databases for 6DOF simulation including proximity effects
Run 6DOF trajectory analysis
Analyze acoustic data for open cavities from wind tunnel or CFD measurements
Analyze requirements and create run condition lists for stores integration testing and numerical analysis
Familiarity with configuration aerodynamics tools
Preferred Qualifications
6 years professional experience related to aerodynamics of store separation
Experience with DOD safety board processes for store separation
Familiarity with CAD tools such as NX and CPLM
Demonstrated record of working hard, strong communication skills, and being accountable
Experience with Matlab for data analysis and data reduction
Familiarity or experience with Fortran
Previous experience with onsite support of wind tunnel testing and data acquisition systems
Solid understanding of aerodynamic fundamentals, CFD techniques, and wind tunnel testing, including two body separation tests
Active DoD secret clearance
Salary Range: $114,900 - $172,300
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
