Northrop Grumman Software Engineer / Principal Software Engineer in Melbourne, Florida

Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems has an opening for a Software Engineer / Principal Software Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals supporting the Joint STARS program. This position will be located in Melbourne, Florida.

Essential Functions :

  • Maintain and develop an application software interface with the Linux operating system, scripting operating system configuration changes and automating deployment of a configured Linux system.

  • Assist with the integration, troubleshooting and testing of implemented software changes.

  • Develop, modify and maintain customized or standardized Communication subsystem applications and services, using software engineering best practices and standards.

  • Participate in the full life-cycle of software development, to include requirements development, modeling and design, application development, unit to CSCI testing, integration, formal system testing, release, installation, and maintenance.

  • Apply technical expertise in solving complex integrations problems.

  • Join a team supporting and building a cross-program DevOps environment using the Atlassian suite. Develop scripts and automations using Python, Groovy, Java, and Ansible that will help maintain the environment, develop new functionality, and support program execution.

  • Work with an existing DevOps team on the stand-up (and maintenance) of a virtual development environment using VMWare VCenter, the Atlassian tool suite, Smartbear Collaborator, Nexus Repository Manager, and other industry-standard tools and applications.

This requisition may be filled at either the Software Engineer OR at the Principal Software Engineer level.

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications for a Software Engineer :

  • Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 2-years of experience in software engineering OR a Master's degree in a (STEM) discipline from an accredited university

  • Experience developing software / writing code in C/C++, Java or other OOP languages

  • Linux (RHEL) experience

  • Experience with a scripting language such as Python

  • Familiarity with git, including commands, branching strategies, etc.

  • Knowledge of Agile Software Development Processes

  • Position requires at minimum an active DoD Interim Secret level clearance to apply, with the ability to obtain a full DoD Secret level clearance (can start with Interim level)

Basic Qualifications for a Principal Software Engineer :

  • Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 5-years of experience in software engineering OR a Master's degree in a (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 3-years of experience in software engineering OR a PhD degree in a (STEM) discipline from an accredited university

  • Experience developing software / writing code in C/C++, Java or other OOP languages

  • Linux (RHEL) experience

  • Experience with a scripting language such as Python

  • Familiarity with git, including commands, branching strategies, etc.

  • Knowledge of Agile Software Development Processes

  • Position requires at minimum an active DoD Interim Secret level clearance to apply, with the ability to obtain a full DoD Secret level clearance (can start with Interim level)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a DevOps role

  • Active DoD Secret clearance

  • Linux System Administration experience

  • Experience administrating Atlassian toolsets

  • Familiarity with REST APIs

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and Strong interpersonal skills

  • Ansible experience

  • Experience with CI/CD tools (Atlassian Bamboo, Jenkins, etc.)

  • Nexus Repository Manager (or similar artifact repository) experience

  • Smartbear Collaborator administration experience

  • Familiar with Groovy

  • Familiarity with database administration

  • Familiarity with containerization
