Candidate will be a Subject Matter Expert in Aircraft Electrical Systems whose responsibilities include:
Leading all phases of development and design of electrical power generation and distribution for manned military air vehicle platforms including external ground power and APU.
Development of electrical power concepts, system architecture, test requirements and specifications.
Creation, review and maintenance of platform Electrical Load Analysis along with input to a SWaP-C(Size, Weight and Power-Cooling) database to determine suitable power availability for a variety of mission profiles.
Experience with system modeling for control and fault isolation and full scale system integration in a laboratory environment.
Developing, soliciting, reviewing, and accepting aircraft electrical power generation/conversion/distribution componentry, evaluation of component and subassembly supplier qualification process/criteria, design of evaluation test plans and ability to calculate part-level reliability based on testing data.
Interacting with cross-functional teams throughout all phases of development, design, implementation, and support.
Facilitation of design reviews with key stakeholders to ensure designs meet requirements.
Mentoring and developing mid-level and junior electrical power engineers assigned to the team.
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineeringwith minimum of 14 years in electrical power/auxiliary systems and power distribution or a Master of Science in electrical Engineering with a minimum of 12 years experience in electrical power/auxiliary systems and power distribution.
Knowledge of aircraft electrical power systems, MIL-STD-704F, and direct experience with aircraft 270 VDC systems, 115/200V 400 Hz, and 28 Vdc power sources (generation), conversion, protection, distribution, and control along with a detailed understanding of aircraft power quality, load standards, and key 270 Vdc issues.
Active, in-scope D.O.D security clearance required to start.
MS in Electrical Engineering
Understanding of the aircraft power supplier base, their technical capabilities and business direction/priorities to assure good supplier fits
Liaison experience troubleshooting aircraft electrical power systems, interpret wiring diagrams and other engineering documentation to create and revise power test procedures.
Knowledgeable about aircraft wiring (types, history, limitations) and harnessing as well as the recent practices applied to 270 Vdc distribution for airworthiness certification
Published and recognized within Power Community (SAE, AIAA, DOD)
Design experience with generators, batteries, converters, inverters, switch gear (AC & DC), and modern power system control for More Electric Aircraft (MEA) designs.
Direct experience with electrical starting of turbine engines (auxiliary, main, and ground) with knowledge of 4 quadrant control theory and sensing.
Good background in power conversion components including aerospace capacitors, inductors, transformers, and switch gear as well as EMI filtering.
