Performs development of technical airworthiness planning and verification support including development of airworthiness approach, plans, basis of certifications, means of compliance, and certification activities for complex total systems. Achieves the logical and systematic realization of customer airworthiness compliance (MIL-HDBK-516 and international standards) into system solutions to meet program objectives (e.g. flight releases, type certification, continued airworthiness, and operational or airspace Integration). Reviews and coordinates with other airworthiness engineers, as well as with internal engineering disciplines at all levels of total system to include: design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. Reviews functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation, interface definition and hardware and software specifications for airworthiness compliance to the appropriate regulations, standards and/or guidelines. Manages airworthiness activities throughout the development, sustainment and disposal lifecycles. Regularly contributes to strategic direction of the Office of Independent Airworthiness and makes inputs to all the programs he/she supports. Leads teams of airworthiness engineers and provides subject matter expert level training across the sector on airworthiness best practices and provides expert level guidance to other airworthiness engineers. Can be called upon to immediately assume leadership of an airworthiness role on any program.

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university with a minimum of 14 years experience in manned or unmanned aircraft systems;Master's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university with a minimum of 12 years experience in manned or unmanned aircraft systems; orPhD in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university with a minimum of 9 years experience in manned or unmanned aircraft systems

Active Secret Clearance

Aircraft development program experience

Preferred Qualifications:

DoD Airworthiness Experience (MIL-HDBK-516, USAF TACC/MACC execution, USN EDRAP execution)

FAA/EASA Airworthiness experience

Significant direct customer interaction

Mentoring and leading teams of engineers

System safety, and airworthiness processes and regulations experience

Leading process improvement initiatives
