Northrop Grumman Technology Services sector is seeking a Systems Modeler 3 or 4 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in McLean, VA. The qualified applicant will become part of Northrop Grumman's Department of State (DOS) Consular Systems Modernization (CSM) Program, for the Bureau of Consular Affairs (CA). This initiative is intended to modernize and consolidate the operational environment under a common technology framework in order to better support the services provided to CA's customers.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Capture and maintain system baseline models that are used for planning, developing, and documenting the as-built system

  • Conduct systems analysis and deep-dive on large portfolio of complex business processes and functional as well as technical requirements

  • Apply model-based engineering (MBE) processes to develop systems that meet customer or product requirements

  • Create requirements backlogs, catalogs, matrices and diagrams necessary to define business and technical architectures

  • Execute trade studies to select from among multiple potential solutions

  • Support the architects and engineers in the use of the models

  • Define MBE requirements for anticipated and future projects

  • Provide technical consultation, training and support to those working with the models

  • Implement required changes to tools and processes for improving requirements management

  • The System Modeler reports to the System Modeling Lead; local travel may be required up to 10% of the time

Basic Qualifications:

This position may be filled at a Level 3 or 4. The requirements are the same.

To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:

  • Bachelor's degree in STEM and 10 years' experience.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience implementing MBE approaches, processes and tools as well as requirements traceability using IBM Rational CLM components

  • In-depth technical expertise in MBE techniques; requirements management, interface control and verification; trade studies and analysis of alternatives; development of end to end solutions

  • Broad technical and MBE experience, across multiple platforms, and encompassing the entire product development lifecycle

  • Experience creating formal system models using system modeling languages, especially SysML and UML

  • Strong experience in performance modeling, including prediction, validation, and tuning, for large-scale, diverse software systems

  • Experience including network/communication hardware and protocols, COTS and open-source products, and other infrastructure components in an MBE approach

  • Experience with employment of CONOPS for the development of system architectures and requirements that are optimized to meet the customer's operational needs at lowest cost

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing

  • Working experience in medium to large programs using Agile development methodology

  • Must have a current, active Secret (or higher) clearance. An interim may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:

Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration:

  • Experience implementing MBE within an Agile, preferably SAFe, development methodology

  • Experience using IBM Rational DOORS NG and Rational Team Concert (RTC) to manage program requirements

  • Experience with a variety of System Modeling Tools, to include Rhapsody, Sparx EA, Cameo, and/or others capable of supporting large-scale development programs

  • Experience developing artifacts to support variety of system modeling functions using Balsamiq and others for UX/UI wireframes, Visio/Erwin for logical data models

  • Experience effectively implementing and utilizing system modeling frameworks such as DODAF, FEAF, and/or others

  • Experience using MBE for a Cloud-based system

  • Experience using MBE to model security and privacy aspects of a system
