Northrop Grumman Space Systems has an opening for a Materials and Processes Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Manhattan Beach, CA.

The selected candidate will be part of the Macroelectronics Materials and Processes Engineering Section supporting various space systems.

Essential Functions:

Candidates must have experience in analyzes, researches, designs and develops materials and their related fabrication and application processes to develop and optimize materials for use in engineering design of and/or application in structures, systems and subsystems. Applies principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to develop non-metallic material and processing specifications, fabrication and assembly processes. Develops, analyzes and applies material properties and design allowables, processing processes and quality engineering specifications. Material analyses may include failure analysis of components, systems and subsystems, life predictions, and definition and requirement specifications. May review and approve subcontractor material processing procedures.


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM)

  • 2 years of e xperience in materials and processes, manufacturing, assembly drawings and test procedures OR Masters Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math ( STEM) and 0 years of experience

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a SCI security clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering or Physics

  • Experience with design reviews, program reviews, failure analysis, trade studies and qualification review boards in support of PM&P issues across the entire Spacecraft design (subsystems, units, slices, CCAs).

  • Active SCI security clearance

  • Demonstrated knowledge with management, and engineering personnel from other areas
